Thank you for the welcome Kimberly! I do think your advice on checking with the doctor before going “cold turkey” on a drug was quite sound. However, in my case I couldn’t bear the thought of working one more day with the excessive knee pain and achy muscles. Sometimes you just have to listen to what your body is trying to tell you and trust your instincts. The day after I quit my pravastatin my knee joint pain was gone and has not yet returned. My leg muscle aches and diminished energy levels substantially improved during the week. I know I made the right choice on this one and I am going to my doctor this week and advising her of the discontinuation. Also going to see my new endo in a week after not having seen one in a while. I wouldn’t be surprised if I need to adjust my medication levels. I still get infrequent minor aches and pains but I can deal with that. I just want people to be aware of the adverse effects of the “statin” family of drugs. If anyone reading this is taking them, or anyone they know is taking them, please read the user testimonials found on various sites.
On a brighter note, I am really enjoying the GDATF site and it’s wonderful members. Being a new member makes me realize I should know much more about this disease that I have and I plan to do just that.

    Hi,

I’m new to this site and actually came across it while researching why my legs and knee joints were so sore. I was diagnosed with Graves in December 2012 and put on methimazole for the hyperthyroid. I work in construction and never really felt bad and had my usual high energy levels even while taking that medication. However, three months ago the doctor didn’t like my slightly elevated triglycerides and cholesterol levels and put me on pravastatin 40mg. Since then I have noticed a major decline in energy levels, thigh pain(especially right side), loss of balance, joint pain, knee pain and more. After researching pravastatin, and the many “statin” family of drugs, these are the exact adverse symptoms described by numerous statin drug users.

As of today, I am discontinuing my association with any statin related drug after reading so many horrible comments by other users. I certainly hope my joint pain and muscle soreness will go away after I stop taking it.

I was a little disheartened to hear that my Graves could also be the cause of these similar symptoms. So, I will let y’all know how thing go and report back with the results asap.
