Kimberly – I went to my Doctor today and he wanted to put me on steroids. I didn’t want to take that route. So we agreed on a prescription Motrin. My thyroid is definitely inflamed and swollen. When I got home, I started feeling like I had flu symptoms, took my temp and it’s a little over 100. And the strangest, I am 59 and been menopausal for 18 years and have started spotting. What is going on? Should I be concerned?
I had RAI last Wednesday and have had a bad headache for 3 days now. I have taken Motrin and Excedrin and they have not helped. It’s worse at night when I’m sleeping. My headache wakes me up. So I decided to come on to the site and was happy to see that other people are suffering from headaches.
I had called my doctor on Friday and told him that my thyroid was very tender and sore. He had said that this was unusual and to take Motrin. I have been taking the Motrin and that has not helped my thyroid. Then Friday night, I got my headache and it hasn’t stopped hurting since.
Before my RAI I asked my Endo if there were any side effects to RAI and he said no. The only thing he mentioned was the thyroid dump that you could get and I haven’t felt that at all yet.
I agree with Gayle – this site is great! I didn’t know who else to go too.

in reply to: Any remedies for bags under eyes? #1174636Do you have bags under your eyes from RAI treatment?
in reply to: Synthroid and Alcohol #1174567Thanks gatorgirly and snelsen. I guess you have to watch what you read. If you check this question out on the internet you get people who say they are sure that the synthroid and the alcohol makes them seriously sick, headaches, throwing up, muscle aches and on and on. . .
After I checked this out on the internet, I said to myself – just go back to the GDATF forum and someone will give you the “real” answer. I don’t know why I just didn’t ask the question here to start with. I thought I was never going to be able to have a beer or margarita again. LOL.
I had my RAI yesterday and I am feeling great. No symptoms or problems!
in reply to: My eyes have turned pink. #1174555Thanks everyone. I’ll see how they are tomorrow and will call my endo. I had my RAI today and am feeling fine. I’m just having some heart palpitations, but my Doctor told me that that could happen and to just ride it out.

in reply to: Weight Gain #1174517Thanks MVK for the positive feedback. I am scheduled for my RAI at 1:30. I, like you, have constantly struggled with which treatment is the right treatment. I am going in today and still thinking “should I have had surgery”. That doesn’t help with the positive side of this. Even after researching and researching, I have second guessed myself right up to the moment. Crazy isn’t it?
I am 59 and hope to maintain a comfortable weight gain. Sounds like you are doing well with that.
Thank you and I will keep everyone posted. You are right. This site has been a real lifesaver to me. The internet answers to your questions, tend to freak me out.

in reply to: Weight Gain #1174515Wow Beach, seems like you have had a difficult time. I hope that you will find your comfort zone soon. This is not an easy disease, that’s for sure.
I also ask my doctor questions, non-stop. And he is wonderful in answering them. He will see me in 3 weeks after my RAI, so I’m hoping, from what I’m reading, that he will catch my hypothyroidism on-time/early, so that I don’t have issues.
I have never been on any other meds. I feel that I have had Graves disease for years and just chalked a lot of it up to getting older. Glad I never took Methimazole.
Kimberly gave me a site that I can go to that will help be prepare for the RAI. I watch my granddaughter in the daytime, so I will be glad when this is over so that I can take care of her again.
Thank you for your information and thoughts. I will keep you posted on how I do tomorrow.

in reply to: Weight Gain #1174513Thank you Kim. This is all great information.
I have started to prepare my room and this will definitely help me. 23.5 hours to go. Yikes!
in reply to: Weight Gain #1174510Thanks again.
What is T4? I’m going to be on Synthroid. And how did you know you went hypothyroid? What are the symptoms?
Before you RAI where you feeling at your worst? Because I am not at my worst, I’m actually having some good days (not great) but I don’t feel at my worst?
Sorry for so many questions, but it’s countdown time for me . .27.5 hours until RAI time, and I’m just trying to get as many questions in as I can.
At the hospital, does Nuclear tell you what you have to do when you are quarantined? And I know what you are talking about – I’m not looking forward to isolation.
Maria.
in reply to: Weight Gain #1174508Thanks Beach 45 that was very helpful. I know worrying about weight gain should not be my main focus. My focus should be on getting better and not my weight. I have always been a thin person, so when I lost my weight with hyperthyroidism, I lost 22 pounds and weighed as low as 101 lbs. I am now 105 lbs, but that has remained the same for many months. So if I gain that weight back, I will be okay. I just don’t want to gain weight and not be able to control it.
I’m having my RAI Wednesday at 1:30. Did you feel okay after your RAI?
in reply to: Day 2 RAI Treatment #1174214Phew – thanks Bobbi. I was beginning to question what I was about to do.
I’m on a low iodine diet this week. What if I ate some iodized salt by accident, and didn’t know it? I’ve tried to be very careful on what I was eating and to follow the guidelines.
Thanks again – Maria
in reply to: Day 2 RAI Treatment #1174212I’m supposed to have RAI on Wednesday and am totally fearful of the whole thing. As I’m reading your postings, it’s really making me not want to have the treatment. The whole Synthroid thing seems to be troubling. Does anyone ever get the right dose and ever feel better? I have not read where anyone has the RAI, takes Synthroid and feels normal again.
in reply to: RAI or Thyroidectomy #1174501Thank you Shirley and Bobbi. I just signed up for this site yesterday and was happy to receive a response to my question. I’m getting familiar with the site, thanks to both of you for your help on how to find other posts that relate to my concerns.
Truly, I don’t want to have either treatment. I feel better for a little while and then the Graves kicks in and I feel terrible. I am in my feel better stage right now, so that always makes me think I don’t need any treatment. My blood tests are still high, so I know that I’m really not better. But I’m trying to convince myself I’m okay and that I don’t need treatment.
I have read sad stories about people who have not had good luck with their Endo. But I will tell you, my Doctor is the absolute best doctor ever. He has me check in with him every 6 weeks for blood work and then always tells me that at some point I would have to make a decision because of the damage to my heart and bones. So when I went in last week, he said he was there for me and his main goal was to get rid of “the bad guy – Graves”. Sooooo, here I am and not looking forward to any treatment. Ugh!
Bobbi, thanks for explaining the “hyper” part of the RAI. My husband was happy that you had written that information because that has been a big fear of mine. I have the beta blockers but have never taken one. Do they make you feel weird?
And Shirley, if the RAI does not work, then I will take the other route.
It sounds like you both are doing great? Are you both feeling back to normal now?
Thanks! What a great site to have found. It’s nice to be able to share this Graves experience with people who are going through the same journey with me.
