Hope I can help.
I’ve been a long time sufferer of cold sores. And yes, when there is bad stress, I will get a cold sore. The cold sores are extrinsic of Graves.
She can use something like Aleve or if the breakouts are especially bad, there’s Cyclovir (I think that is the name of it). I don’t know if meds for Graves have any contraindications; she should ask her endo if she can have cyclovir if her breakouts are especially bad and often. Ditto the Aleve; see if the Graves meds have any contraindications before she uses any on her cold sores.
I don’t know about the bone pain, though it is definitely something she should report to her endo. Same goes for her sore throat; maybe she’s got a bug she can’t shake or one that is resistant to what she might be taking for the sore throat.
Hope she feels better soon.
in reply to: How do I find the right DR?? #1073857YOu most certainly need one who will fully describe Graves, how it manifests itself, its symptoms, lab indicies involved, Rx and the way they work (including side effects) and what the course of treatment will be.
And you most certainly need an endo who will take time to answer all of your questions.
Try an endo who is affiliated with a local teaching hospital and, if possible, one who is an instructor/professor of endocrinology at a med school. (make an appointment with a couple; this way, if you don’t like the first one, you can see the second one and yr wait time won’t be that long at that point)

I am sure your H. is scared stiff. We can identify.
I am also guessing your H is the type who doesn’t get to a doctor unless he’s really really sick — I hope his doc can talk some sense into him and let him know what he’s up against if it turns out he does have Graves…and what happens if he doesn’t treat his condition.
Maybe it would help your H to know how many famous people have Graves; you’ll find a whole list of them on Wikipedia where the definition of Graves can be found. Rodney Dangerfield was one of them. There’s a football player and a host of other people whose names he’d recognize in a flash.
in reply to: What if you do not treat? #1074020To discontinue meds and go without isn’t a good thing to do.
Did you tell your doc you were feeling worse when it began to happen?
And a resting heartrate of 105 can be dangerous; when I was diagnosed (it took a trip to the ER after my heart rate shot up to over 150), the cardiologist in on my case told me that there are some people who ignore the increased heart rate with serious repercussions to their cardiac health.
My suggestion: go back to your endo. If you don’t like that one, get another one. it’s essential that your Graves be monitored.
I have not heard of any connection between menopause and Graves. Graves can hit either sex at pretty much any age. There are youths and youngsters that have the condition; same goes for ladies who develop the condition after childbirth.
in reply to: Is GD considered "life threatening"? #1074100Yah, I was thinking party for the guys, too.
Maybe have them over for pizza and pasta, a bunch of video games or some "boys’ night in" videos and then have the guys sleep over.

Is there something he always wanted to do or somewhere he always wanted to go? Maybe you and the family can plan a mini-vacay or maybe he’d like to partake in a new hobby or endeavor?
in reply to: Pregnant 3 Months After RAI, will it hurt baby?? #1074169This must be extremely frightening to you.
I don’t think this situation can wait; you need an answer and peace of mind.
Call there tomorrow and tell them how critical your situation is; call them again tomorrow as early as possible.

Get a second opinion from another endo.
in reply to: Going Crazy!! #1074526As you know, "bedside manner" is extremely important.
I’d start looking for a doc you can talk to and one who will sit and listen to your questions.
If you’re learning in a teaching hospital, you probably know which endos are the ones you’d like to handle your case.
I’m also not crazy about the fact that he pushes RAI so much.
in reply to: depression #1074697Are you still with us?
How are you today?
in reply to: Muscle Loss in Legs & More #1074817Mickey: try a gentle leader for your dog.
Pet stores carry them — I know they are used for larger dogs but it will probably work with your cocker spaniel, too, when you take him for a walk.
in reply to: Looking for stories #1074645Gee, this is great! What a fabulous idea!
I will bet you you can market that film to endo offices and hopsitals — as you’ve stated, there’s nothing from a young person’s POV.
Good luck!

I remember when there was really no red tape. None of this "denied" stuff ever happened. ” title=”Sad” />
in reply to: Need Womans Advice #1074655I have it also. I have had it for years and I had a couple of biopsies on the lumps about 7 years ago.
THey were filled with fluid, were the lumps. Nothing abnormal turned up.
