    Hi,
I would like to get your blog link regarding your upper eyelid retraction surgery.
    I’m seriously considering doing it.
    Thanks, Laura

I’m considering having my upper eyelid retraction corrected. I’ve gone to several oculoplastics and gotten different treatment plans. As my retraction is mild, I’m leaning towards the surgery that involves muellers muscle.
Is this the type of surgery you had or did yours involve levator? Muellers is accessed on the inside of the eyelid while levator is accessed through the outside of the eyelid if I understand correctly. Since Muellers is closer to the eyeball, was there any discomfort or foreign body sensation after surgery? After healing? I do have dry eyes. I need the cosmetic bleph surgeries as well but my Doc wants to do that later. I live in Sacramento and am traveling 3+ hours each way to see m doctor. Can anyone recommend an occuloplastic doc in the Sacramento area that they have had surgery with? Thanks!

What is a Nightshade lectin? Can you please give me some examples of foods that contain them? Thanks.

    Thanks Karen,
One of my friends also suggested Xanex. How do you feel the next day….foggy or well rested and alert? Does it tend to dry your eyes or mouth? Laura

It’s such a vicious cycle……because Thinking about the diagnosis of TED causes anxiety and stress…..

I have not tried Klonopin, I haven’t even heard of it but will talk to my doctor. Thank you for replying! I am so sorry about the night sweats……no fun. Have you tried gabapentin? I do believe it is the generic of neurontin. I believe it is used to treat seizures and they found that one of the side effects is that it decreases hot flashes. I have been on it for several years and only have ‘hot flushes’……no sweating, just get hot enough to throw the covers off to cool off. If you do try it, used the lowest dose possible to control the hot flashes as it can make you have a foggy brain…….which I pretty much have anyways. I can get away with only one or two 100mg capsules. The original dosage was 900mg divided into three doses.
Thanks for the info. Have a nice weekend!

Flora, I am sorry you are feeling so bad :( You will find this forum to be a huge support. Even with a good support system of family and friends, they still don’t fully understand. My husband, who is wonderful, thinks I am depressed because of all the crying I do. I think it’s more the anxiety and all the ‘what ifs’. Just know that you are not alone. Feel free to vent frustrations…….like having to wait so long to get into appointments……be there, done that. Wish there was more I could do……big hug. laura

My eyes are soooo sensitive to flourescent lights as well. Sunlight can be bad too.
I wonder if there are inside glasses that are not sunglasses?????
I have an appointment with my endo on Monday and I will ask for solutions.
I did get a wedge pillow to keep me propped up at night,,,,,,just woke up with a neckache…..but it is good for reading before bedtime.
Keep the answers coming, I need all the help I can get.

Good morning! I was wondering if anyone has tried Nasonex to reduce eye symptoms? It was one of the recommendations in the “10 things to help you look and feel better”. The thought is that it can be locally verses systemically delivered. When delivered nasally it seeps through the orbital bones to help calm down the muscles of the eyes.
Also does anyone know of any oil based OTR eye drops that don’t contain preservatives? I use the night time ointment but that won’t work for the day….it’s like putting Vaseline in your eyes! Thank you much!

    Thanks Shirley,
I will be talking to my doctor. I am planning on talking to a doctor that specializes in autoimmune diseases as well. I just really need to find something to help me sleep that doesn’t dry my eyes out. My friends give me lots of suggestions but since I am without ovaries the usual things just don’t help. I am thinking the Benadryl verses the Estrogen is the lesser of two evils. I just wish this TED would go away! Have a great day and thanks for posting. This blog lets me know that I am not alone…….

    Good morning Karen,
I am sorry you are having a bad day. I agree that this blog is a safe place for us to share our emotions. I am very thankful for it. I said a prayer this morning for all of us suffering through the symptoms of Graves’ disease. I cry a lot too……..like all the time. Then I have to laugh because the tear really do make my eyes feel better….hahaha. I am glad you have your darling boy Gabe. I’ve got a yellow lab ‘Johann’. He’s great therapy. Music is amother escape that helps me feel better. Sometimes we need to take a retreat from all the research, anxiety and ‘what if’. Easier said than done.
    Big hugs, Laura

    Christina,
For a multivitamin, Women’s one a day “petites” don’t contain iodine……..orange container. Glad to hear the dryness and soreness are gone……..that’s encouraging…….now we just need the swelling to go down!

    Karen,
Have you tried lowering your iodine intake? My multi-vitamin has it….no longer taking that. I’ve cut way back on the iodized salt and my eyelids seem to be a little better. My wedge pillow arrived in the mail today so I will let you know how it helps the morning double vision—-can’t remember if you had that as one of your symtoms. I am also going to start warm compresses on my eyes. There is a product called “tranquil eyes” that I may order…..which was in the video. I also got a humidifier for the bedroom……..I’ll let you know if any of this helps……I am just getting started on trying to make myself more comfortable…….racking up the credit card charges…..LOL
Also went through the cabinet and chucked all products with paraben……baby lotion and baby wash had it! Yicks!
Yes I have tried melatonin….with no luck :(
    Hope you sleep well tonight!

Oh how I wish I could get off of my “Bennies” as I like to call them. I’ve tried before and I will be up all night.
If the HRT (estrogen/progesterone) won’t exacerbate the TED and I am on them short term…….meaning once my eyes are not in the active state……I am willing to give it a try. What I am wondering is if the estrogen will help or hinder the eye problems? Thanks all for the input! Laura
