I have been researching for weeks and looking for answers to why I feel “crazy”. The articles that were downloadable were of great help. I am currently unable to work. I am a school secretary for a small, but busy Parochial school. I couldn’t problem solve, remember things I was asked to do even if I wrote them down and my anxiety will hardly allow me to sit still. I was diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism in Nov 2009 after waking from a Brain hemorrhage that left me unconscious for several weeks. While in rehab the Thyroid issue was discovered. I had RAI in July 2010. Then started developing Graves’ Disease symptoms and having Graves’ Eye Disease became active in the Fall of 2012 and progressed quickly. I had decompression surgery on both eyes this past July at the Kellogg’s Eye Center. When my boss brought this issues to my attention I was hurt and confused. I came back from an Aneurysm had worked for 4 years and now I am being told I am not performing my job to the expectations I had always met. I had no idea until I have been able to see Doctors, sit here at home and research. I am in the middle of changing Endo’s since the one I have been seeing doesn’t really deal with Graves’ Disease. I am hearing that the new Endo does deal with Graves’ Disease.

Thank you for publishing the articles I will be taking them to my appointment.

Kimberly, I am sorry if my post was unclear. My brain goes in so many directions at once. I am going to just give a step by step of what i am going through and maybe it is the way it should happen

Feb 2010-Was told I had graves disease caused by my hyperactive thyroid.
July 2010-was given the iodine treatment and then put on synthroid. My levels balanced out late 2011.

I have continued to have blood work every 6 months, but this past October I started having vision issues, but had a lot of stress going on and waited until November to have a vision screening. Optometrist said what was going on with my eyes would subside and not a big deal.

By mid December my eyes were a mess watering all the time, sensitive to light, swollen, left eye bulging. I was able to see an Opthalmologist in January and as soon as he looked at me he said I was going to need decompression surgery. I had a CT-Scan met with Dr. again he confirmed I needed surgery and instructed me to meet with a Ear/Nose/Throat surgeon who would be assisting him with my surgery. I now have met with both surgeons and they both say to do the surgery. I am the one that spoke up to ENT about my thyroid levels and then he was like oh yes I am glad you told me they were high that could have been dangerous if surgery was performed.

I spoke with my Endocrinologist about what was going on and she says I have to wait and let my levels return to normal. She wants blood work done again on 2/23/13. Until then I am suppose to sleep with my head elevated and ice my eyes. I have to close 1 eye to read or type. I don’t understand why they can’t do something to help me with my vision issues before the squinting and double vision are permanent.

Sorry about going on and on, but I am so frustrated and sad.

I was diagnosed with Graves Disease 3 years ago after waking up from a Brain aneurysm. I did the iodine treatment to kill thyroid and everything was going good until about 3 months ago. I went through a stressful situation and my thyroid went crazy. My Endocrinologist lowered Synthroid and told me to see an ophthalmologist. The moment the ophthalmologist looked at me he said I needing surgery. I redid blood work and Endocrinologist has stopped the Synthroid completely. Now I am suppose to meet with an Ear/Nose/Throat surgeon who will work with ophthalmologist to do surgery.

I keep reading that my Thyroid should be under control before surgery. My doctors are not saying this to me. I am really nervous and confused.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.
