in reply to: Anyone NOT gain weight after RAI? and VENT #1064875Thanks everyone.
Corrine when did you have RAI?I feel out of the ordinary, because I never felt super sick, and really wouldn’t know I had anything with me if it werent for weight loss around christmas.
I am not sure if my levels are stable or not now. Last blood work showed they were close, and I had work done last fri…
I just assume they are getting worse not better because I weighed 5lbs more 3 months ago when I was more hyper and exercising everyday..RAI is looking like a possible option for me…
in reply to: Anyone NOT gain weight after RAI? and VENT #1064867Thanks bobbi-
I am pretty much the same weight I have always been, and and pretty much stable with my levels. I am prob going to RAI, and that is where my fear comes in.I read one post on this board of a woman gaining 96 lbs after rai.
What have you seen as the average experience?
I just think about how when people say "hypothyroidism" people think the person is over weight. But my theory to this one is people are over weight for a while and THEN find out they are hypo…. not hyper than hypo. hopefully. If I lost 25 lbs right now I would probably be in the hospital The only reason I went to drs and found I have graves(hasnt even been diagnosed officially yet!) was because I was 14 lbs under and thought I was dying of cancer!
in reply to: Anyone NOT gain weight after RAI? and VENT #1064865Oh ski I heard you *have* heard! Not "never"… well that is good!
What weight gain do you usually hear about?
in reply to: Anyone NOT gain weight after RAI? and VENT #1064864I am only 23, and have gained all plus 5 of what I lost (gain 18 back since January)
I don’t understand how gaining 100 lbs in 6 months is even possible. ughh..in reply to: PTU and Liver failure #1065632Hi everyone thanks for all the replys!
I am not extremely hyper right now. Actually, I don’t think I am at all now. I get my bloodwork done monday. I feel even a little hypo.My doctors gives me choices, he makes me feel crazy when I don’t agree with him. I often call my GP after my endo apts. She supports me 100%. I just want her to treat me!
I am at the point where I feel like I should just do RAI so I can stop thinking about what options I should choose.
My endo said 1 out of 100 get increased eye problems post RAI. I am getting married in 6 weeks, I just need my eyes to stay pretty for a little longer. Sorry if that sounds vain.I saw a friend the other day who I hadn’t seen in a year and she flat out asked me if I had graves. I was like "is it that bad" She said she could tell because my eyes looked tired. I couldn’t even tell! But she was diagnosed 10 years ago, and has been through most of this. Her eyes were completely pertruded once! Oh and she said I looked thin! which made me smile because I have gained 15 lbs in past 3 months (but lost 10 with graves!) But you know how you feel after than.
in reply to: PTU and Liver failure #1065615Ski I am allergic to methimazole. Could I try name brand?
The statistics are from the FDA site.
So does PTU cause liver damage or liver failure?
in reply to: Newly Diagnosed — How Sick were You All? #1065836I felt pretty normal… Except I lsot 10-15 lbs from Nov -Jan.. which is the holidays and I usually put on 5 lbs and my hair was fallign out and small clumbs at my hair dresser. I was also pretty weak. I am a rock climbing, and I couldn’t even do beginner stuff
I thought I was dying of cancer! But NOW just 3 months after treatment, my hair isn’t falling out and I gained the weight I lost back ” title=”Very Happy” /> I feel much better and am getting strong again!
in reply to: burning calories??? #1065916SKI- I guess I am having a hard time understanding what "burning calories" actually entails.
in reply to: burning calories??? #1065912If you are on thyroid hormone- are you able to exercise, and increase your metabolism to help lose weight? I feel like this may be a problem because you are given a prescription dose of hormone..
in reply to: burning calories??? #1065911how does muscle burn calories? just by boosting metabolism?
in reply to: burning calories??? #1065909Thank you corrine… a little confusing but helpful!
Graves is related to the metabolism because the thyroid produces hormones that have a lot to do with converting food to energy. With out that hormone, how does that happen??
in reply to: burning calories??? #1065908Kimberly- I have been given the okay! the doctor just wants me to stay on 300 mg of ptu until my next apt, which is the 15th… I have been on ATD since January.
I am still confused though- I understand that muscle boost metabolism, but does this occur even if levels are medically maintained? I lost about 15 lbs being hyper, and I gained that all back, which is great, but it went from lean, to flabbbby! Will I get my muscle back?? Even on ATD?
I definitely have to eat less as well, but I have eaten like a horse my whole life.
Can you boost your metabolism if you are taking a fixed thyroid hormone as well?
in reply to: anyont NOT have a bad taste with ptu? #1066232Thanks. I love lemmons.
