in reply to: Kidney Surgery Monday & Now Wondering… #1172390
NLBatten,
Ugh, glad I am not the only 1 w/ these wonderful things! (Sorry you have them though..LoL) He didnt say anything about stents, but I know I have scar tissue on the right side & maybe this will cause a problem & need 1. I guess I will find out when I come to! haha
He is not doing my left side bc of that lovely stone that is stuck. I believe I will go back for that. It all happened so fast that I had to call the next day to find out all the details.I actually do have some questions regarding your stones & graves. After this week, if you dont mind, I will take ya up on your offer & message you directly. Not sure how to do that, never have. LoL
Thanks so much for all of your info! UGH…Dooms Day has arrived! 4 hour ride, here I come! haha
Thanks again!!
in reply to: Kidney Surgery Monday & Now Wondering… #1172389Thank you for your response!
Snelsen, I have informed them of all the med history at the time of my only appt. They did call for a refresh on med history. I know I didnt mention the Graves but I will let them know before surgery.
As for the swallowing thing…I have no idea either. One nurse said maybe I recieved too much & with me being short (LoL) that could have done it. They just gave me a sucker thing like the dentist uses & unstrapped my arm so I could use it. :o) 2 Different hospitals & 3 c-sections…the same everytime. I thought it was srtange. Thanks for your response!in reply to: Dark Patches On Face??? #1172242Thanks for the responses! I do wear sunscreen now, but I need to make sure I re-apply it more often. Its yard work time & I sure dont want it to get worse! LoL
I am trying to get a GAP exception thru my insh company so I will be able to see my endo. I will ask him a few questions then about it (thanks for the suggestions!) I just gotta get thru this darn kidney surgery on monday. Then I can focus on that. :o)in reply to: Kidney issues & GD? #1171525Hi there! I’m sorry for your battle w/ kidney stones! They are NOT my fav thing! LoL
I cant even count how many stones I have passed since 2002. Last CT scan I had roughly 26ish (Total for both kidneys).
I have read about the parathyroid thing & it did say that there are ppl (very low %) that had RAI also had an issue w/ hyperparathyroid. When I read this I was excited b/c it would explain A LOT! Infact, that would fit perfectly w/ everything I have going on…BUT, lol my calcium is normal. It also states it is found years after they had RAI. Its been only since ’99 for me.I was hoping that was an answer b/c my dr thinks there has to be a connection w/ my issues. I just tell him that I am an overachiever..haha
I FINALLY found a good urologist & he wants to blast a few of my stones, but due to my hubbys company switching insh AGAIN, the hosp does not accept the new insh so back to square 1! Same w/ my endo, but I am fighting them on that 1! :o)
I see my family dr wed & discuss where my endo left off. Maybe new eyes has some ideas. I will post back if I hear anything interesting!
Thanks for your reply! Its kinda nice to know I’m not the only 1 :o)in reply to: New Dr. Tomorrow, What to ask? #1170587The nurse called this afternoon & said new armour dose was sent in for me & my B12 is normal & I could stop w/ the injections.
Hmmm because my hematologist/oncologist (that I cant see b/c…SUPRISE..insh reasons..LoL) told me I will need them monthly for the rest of my life. I have had them monthly for a year or so plus a few times he had me go weekly.
Not sure, but I thought my b12 would be higher then a 373. I asked the nurse when she called & she said it thats normal range even though I just had an injection.
I am still going to get my monthly injections & I let her know I was able to. Now THIS is how crazy my insh is. I can not see my hem/onc Dr, but I can get the injections. The Dr is OUT of network, yet the same office where I get my injections are IN network. LoLsnelsen, I do get iron infusions as I need them for “maintenance” for the rest of my life I was told. Same w/ the b12. They started me on b-12 because I was around 70 when checked & I did try oral but he said I couldnt absorb it that way.
He said my iron was fine now also. As for the heart rate, this morning while watching tv (nothing exciting..lol) it was 124bpm. IDK what will be done about the heart rate though. I have has so many Drs tell me how bad it is but nothing gets done. He did mention tach at my appt, but from my history…nothing will be brought up about it again. :o/in reply to: New Dr. Tomorrow, What to ask? #1170585BTW…lol
Thanks for your replies & hellos. Its nice to be able to ask a question about this & someone know what I am actually talking about!
My poor hubby still has no idea what I am talking about. Just yesterday he argued w/me that my b-12 injections WERE my iron infusions. Funny after 5 years of them you would think he would know. He’s clueless! 😮
in reply to: New Dr. Tomorrow, What to ask? #1170584Well, New Dr. seems pretty nice. I took advice & told him about the important things & explained the insh issue. He decided it was important to check some things w/ labs (whoot whoot! lol)
Thyroid was checked & results were TOTALLY not what I was expecting w/ the way I have felt for a while. My FREE T3 was a little high at 3.6 & my TSH was also high at 9.07! I thought for sure I was getting too much meds. W/out a thyroid & years of never having it right, I have learned what too much or too little meds felt like. Well, this time I was WAY wrong! lol
My b-12 was a 373, which is in normal limits, but he is wondering why its not higher w/ the weekly, then monthly b-12 injections I have had for the past year. I actually just had one a week & 1/2 ago.
He asked if I was ever checked for tachycardia. I laughed because I have only ever heard that my heart rate was too high & it was not good. Nothing else.
He changed my Armour now to 90mg 1/day from 60mg 1/day.
We shall see what he says in a month!in reply to: Celiac disease common with graves? #1062852WOW, thanks for all of the informative posts!
All of my family lives far away & I have tried to get some kind of family history from them, but no one seems to know anything. The only family medical history I KNOW of is that my aunt (mom’s sister) has GD & had RAI, my grandma (moms side) died of lymphoma, fatty liver (mom & her sister) & high blood pressure. I was diagnosed with TED around end of ’01. I don’t think my aunt with GD has that though.
My kiddo’s ped suggested I get their thyroid levels checked once a year. I don’t think they are actually looking for graves. I will have to look at their records to see. They thought it was a good idea to give that a look when they are in for their checkups. I never would have even thought to have that done before, but they said it was a good idea with me having thyroid issues. I never had any problems until I gave birth to my 1st munchkin. I got down to 88lbs and didn’t feel right so they checked it out & was concerned how hypER my thyroid was. RAI not long after.
The 1st appt w/ my new endo, he explained the ‘symptoms’ of both hyper & hypo. This may sound odd, but I have some ‘symptoms’ of both, no matter what my TSH is at. (All other thyroid levels in ‘normal’ range)I have for at least a year, but they seem to have gotten worse about the past 6 month. I figure it must be stress or something like that making it seem this way.
As for some of my other posts..hahaha I re-read them. I can totally tell when they were right after an appt w/ my family dr!!! He would throw things out there like ‘pituitary tumor’ or ‘leukemia’ with no real explanation. I would run home to look up what in the world he was even talking about. Which all lead me to some sort of ‘you’re dying’ site..lol I since then have learned what places to stay away from, OH & not see that dr again..LOL He REFUSSED to give me a referral to an endo (& I had to have one). He did nothing to explain the real issues, just liked to bring up things that didn’t apply to me & say ‘have a nice day’. I happened to hear about a free clinic & I went. They were SO helpful & got me a referral that day. Within a few weeks I got great insurance & do not qualify to be seen there anymore.) (I know I sound like a total nut job & I apologize. lol Now that I have a great endo, I am hoping to be able to ask him questions & not get the run around! This site is the best out there! (& believe me, I have been everywhere in cyber space to get info..HAHAHA) Its nice to know I can always come to this site & know its real ppl w/ real stories to read & even learn from! So thank you everyone for making me feel I am not alone!
Kariin reply to: Celiac disease common with graves? #1062847Thanks everyone for the info! The more I learn about GD, the more fascinated I get! I was diagnosed in ’98 and never knew anything about it until about aug of ’10! I was young when diagnosed lol Now in my 30’s, I was tired of feeling like this, so I started researching. It is just amazing everything that is/could be involved when having GD!
I have read CD is common in families. Out of curiosity, I asked the pediatrician IF I do infact have CD, would they recommend my kids getting tested. They told me if my test comes back positive, call & have an appt made to get my kids tested as well. Do any of you have CD & and any of your children?Does anyone know what the other autoimmune diseases that are ‘common’ with GD? This is all new to me & its hard to do research when I have no idea what to research..LOL AND there are so many contradicting web sites, its hard to know what is correct.
Thank you so much for the info! I keep reading your posts to make sure I didn’t miss anything! )
Kariin reply to: Dose of I 131? #1063390Hey Sky, thanks for postingo my question.
This is the reason I hate looking up anything on the net! lol I have been looking more since I posted my question. There is SO many different places where they say different things. That is why I LOVE this site! lol Its so hard to understand alot of this, & when you research online, things get fuzzy with the info! Depending on what site I go to, Its from 10-20mCi from some sites to 100mCi & up on others! Its crazy!
I guess I was just hoping that explained alot of things, like about my thyroid looking normal in app from my ct scan. There shouldnt be one..lol I guess it could be a mistake…Kind of like my dr I see for kidney stones having my report saying I HAVE kidney disease. He never told me & my labs look good. Maybe just another mistake ;O)
Thanks again for the post! I will talk to the dr I am seeing on friday!in reply to: Starting to think I am crazy #1063404Thanks! I have no one to talk to about all of this. Here is what I am most confused about.
My 2nd appt he got my results (20.4) and was ready to change my meds. THANK GOODNESS I did my research. I explained maybe a lab error b/c my last labs (20 days earlier) was .203. I even showed him my copy. He said lab errors rarely happen, but lets wait to change anything. SWEET! He actually listned! HE said labs rarely make mistakes, HE brought up the pituitary tumor & needed an MRI, HE said it doesnt make sense! NOW with 1 ‘normal range lab’ I am fixed & 3 of 4 were lab mistakes, no mri to even check after saying that & see me in 3 months. I’m so frustrated!
Not that this part matters, But I have to tell it. ) My WBC, PLT CT, among others have been off for years. My old dr never said a word & I never knew or asked. This new dr seemed to listen so I asked him at my last appt "why". He says abnormal is just my normal. OK..lol THATS when he said "I mean its not like they are THAT high. I could do a bone marrow test to check for leukiema (sp) but is it really worth it? If it goes higher I will do one" Not that that is a concern of mine, they have been off for over 8 years. But Why even say it?
Before I left I asked if I should get an Endo, he said no. they wouldnt do anything he isnt doing. The only Endo around here didnt take my insh. I am calling today to see if maybe she takes my new insh. I do not have optical insh, but I was told the optom will bill it as medical so I should be good there. Daylight savings saved me from taking kids to school in the dark! YEAH! ) I guess I will keep searching until I find a dr that WILL listen. How do you all explain things to your dr without sounding like a hypercondriac? lol Thats what I feel they will be thinking when I see a new one.
Thanks again for responding! Its nice to know other ppl out there WANT to know whats going on & actually DO ask questions. Here, no one asks, just trusts. I cant do that anymore! ~Kariin reply to: TSH & cat scan question #1064142Thanks for the reply!
The tests were done at the same lab. My Dr even went to the lab & talked to them about it.
I would like to know what to expect. Not sure what they are looking for..LOL
He also put me on a beta blocker B/C my heart rate was 140 at rest. It has been like this for over a year, new Dr is trying to find out why. I’m sure he will, but I would like to be on top of things…for me ;O)Thanks again!
in reply to: TSH changed CRAZY in 2 weeks??? #1064211Hi there again!
My free t4 was 1.9 (1.0-4.0)
t4 6.55 (5.53-1.0)
t uptake 28.90 (23.5-40.5)
TSH 20.40 (0.465-4.68)These were taken 8/24 I’m sure he will just recheck it if he feels the need. My RAI was suppose to be enough to kill my thyroid. Dr checked it 1 time shotly after, then retired. Never checked again. If a person does not have a thyroid, what range in dose of synthroid should that person be on? My new Dr said something about maybe there was some thyroid still there & it is producing again. I found that VERY interesting!!
Thanks so much for responding to my post!in reply to: RAI then child. Did I cause this? #1064268THANKS you all!
I dont like resurching ANYTHING on the internet b/c its always bad. This board gives real ideas from real ppl going through alot of the same stuff! I LOVE this board!
I dont care if he is a big boy…like I said before, my hubbys family is a big size family. Lets put it this way…my hubby is the RUNT at 275lbs. Most of my family is small framed. We dont know which way the lil monkeys will go..LOLHe was just so darn small for so long. They even told me once I must be under feeding him! As long as he is healthy, its all that matters to me. I am glad to find out here that I should have him checked once a year! I never would have thought of even having him checked at all if it were not for this DR telling me that in the 85th% they start to worry about weight. I was just worried about thyroid..LOLOL That is good to know! Maybe I should go ahead & have the other 2 checked as well throughout the years.
Thank you for posting great info for me! When it comes to the kiddos, we ALWAYS worry!in reply to: Question about pets/animals #1064335Thank you all for responding! I feel so stupid that 11 years later, I am just now trying to educate myself! My new dr was shocked when I pulled out 9 meds I have been given over the last year. He said some of these meds should NEVER be taken together! My last Dr would just give me a pill for whatever was going on with me. I didnt have the heart to tell my new Dr that was not even all of them he had given. SO, after a month to get the meds I dont actually need out, he is going to do a HUGE blood workup to see if all the other things going on is older meds, or something different. AND get my synthroid corrected. Got to start somewhere.
As for the babies I rescue, with all of your help & knowing by next seaon I should (hopefully) have MY eating habits better, no more caffene, no more smoking, and reduce stress.(HA yeah right)..etc. I dont think I will be worring as much about getting an illness, I will know more about this with the help of my DR & this awesome board….instead of the internet that is SUPER SCARY!! ;O)
Thanks again!
