Thank you!! Now I don’t feel like I’m going crazy! I will ask him about that. So you just massage your scar? I have been really stressed about this whole procedure and I’m not usually this bad. But I hate to feel like I can’t breath or I’m out of breath. It happened in the hospital about 8 hours after my surgery and I though my throat was closing so they had to give me steriods and a xanax- because they didn’t know if I really couldn’t breath or I was having a bad panic attack – which now that I hear what you have said its probably the panic attack. Thanks for you imput!!

Heather, I hope you get this post. I was diagnosed with graves about 6 mths ago but was allegeric to ptu so I couldn’t take any of the drugs. My only option was to have surgery. I chose not to do the RAI because I read that there MIGHT have a higher cancer rate years from now There are many people on this board that have had it and had no issues- it just wasn’t an option for me. I had a bad experience in the hospital but I’m very phobic about things around my neck ( I can’t wear scarfs, turtle necks) so the first night I had a bad panic attack. But they gave me xanax to calm me and I was on it for a few days. I chose to stay 2 nights because of the drainage tube that some doctors put in. Mine keeps it in for 2 days. I stoped taking pain meds on the 3rd day and was driving 6 days later and returned to work for a few hours a day. I was fine. Now I feel like I crashed and feel hypo-which is normal. I just started synthryiod and it will probably take a few months to get me at the right dose. I would do the surgery again having the choice. I’m just very phobic about my neck. I caused myself allot of stress over nothing:)) If you chose to have surgery I wish you the best. And RELAX its not that bad!! <img decoding=” title=”Smile” />

I was told by my doctor and several other people who had this surgery that there would be a small tube for drainage. I even spoke to the nurse at the hospital yesterday about it. She was explaining how it worked.

Thank you for your response. My concern is that my levels have improved since my last blood test two months ago. I’m on a beta blocker that seems to be working well and I’m doing accupuncture. I would like to wait until January to see if my levels go down more -if not I will do the surgery. I just hate to do something so perminate if there is a chanse it might be normal again–atleast for while.

HI, I’m new to this board and new to Graves but you really need to find another doctor. I would find another endo and see what they say. My doctor immediately referred me to an endo after all my tests because he couldn’t treat me and I was feeling terrible. I hope you find a good doctor.
