Hey,

Sorry this is such a worrying time for you! We are in a similar situation where my hubby who is a specialist in languages has just been made redundant too…. Its such a worrying time and I am praying for all of you that we get some good news too. Even just enough to "give us our daily bread".

Love and prayers xxxxx

Hi Paloma,

Thanks so much for a lovely message! That is very sweet of you! I am fairing better thanks – my mum (these mums are so wise eh?) was speaking to her close friend last night who is a retired theatre sister – Margaret knows everything   ! She said that all this is normal and it should settle soon! I will tell you a funny story – Mgt is very typical Scots – straight spoken and actually speaks rather fast as she is nervous. Anyway she has a SIL with the exact same name. So she was a the rheumatologist regarding getting a referral for a hip replacement. Anyway, she had seen this man on several occassions but this time he was looking at "her notes" and he said I don’t know why you are here as you don’t even have RA??? If you knew her you would be in kinks when she said " Oh wait a wee minute …let me see those notes (the nursing sister in her speaking lol), and anyway she scanned them while he just sat dumbfounded – no doubt not used to a patient turning the tables…Anyway she said these are not my notes these are my SIL notes… He almost passed out! lol

I am trying to think that I have been ill for so long and the last 8 months were a real trial after the TS so I can’t expect to be well again in a few days …but hey nothing stops me wanting/expecting too after all I am a woman <img decoding=” title=”Very Happy” /> . Thanks so much for your kind words…its just silly things and my hubby although great will do things like make everyone’s dinner except mine – or leave mine in the pot and I feel really low because I think why can’t you just put that on a nice wee plate and bring it to me – he is a just a typical man I suppose and if I was feeling better well I wouldn’t need to even think about people doing things for me. He is under a tremendous amount of strain and gets really short tempered etc and that all effects my nerves and emotions as I am sure you can imagine.

The other night the babies bottles still hadn’t been made at 12.30 after midnight. So the next day I thought (day after getting home from hospital) I am going to have to get up and do things even though I couldn’t straighten my neck etc.. Anyway I said diplomatically you really need to keep to the routine or else you will be making bottles at that time at night and then you just get more stressed and agitated. I nearly fell off my chair when he said I am keeping to the routine but its so exhausting and hard!    I tell you if I still had a thyroid I know the house would have been up in the air as I wanted to say YES IT IS EXHAUSTING! Why on earth do you think your wife is in her bed at 6.30/7pm every night and that is me getting through a day being ill too! Plus the fact my mum is trying to take the kids during the day to help us at the moment…It really irkes me at times

So I am having to push the routine and last night everything was done for 7pm…well apart from me getting any dinner But hey that is life and I can imagine the majority of people are in the same boat and I am just a moany joe

Thanks every one for your prayers…I really need them and I keep thinking about Emily saying that by the end of the year I will hopefully be looking forward to a brighter future with better health! You are right about the kids..my eldest is such an emotional wee chap (wonder who he takes that after) so I lay in bed last night and told him a story about a little boy called Dominic (thats his name) and that he was sad and confused because his mummy wasn’t well and the next moment Jesus was walking next to him and said Dominic put your hand in Mine and I will take care of you. He was like thats a lovely story mummy but I’m not allowed to walk down the road on my own

gosh that was a long one!

Hey,

Yes my heart used to really thud at night! Infact it would be so fast and beating so hard that my pj top would vibrate with each beat. At night your body starts to release other hormones too so I can imagine that only adds to the whole effect.

I would lie with the fans on as high as possible – ice cold water with ice in it to try and cool my system down and read/have tv on the lot to take my mind of the worrying thudding of my heart! Just be careful with taking extra beta blockers they can put your BP way down and you may come around on the floor

Hopefully once the meds start to take effect your heart rate etc,, should slow down.

When I was first diagnosed I would lie in bed for about an hour and have a resting heart rate of 120 – that really frightened me. By the time my surgery was coming last week I was so used to a resting HR of 120/130 I took it in my stride – even though it felt awful I just had to take my mind off it! Most of the time I would have to take a diazepam which would then allow me to get to sleep.

In the book I recommended "self help for your nerves" there is a really interesting part where she discusses tachycardia (due to stress etc..) and reassures the reader that the heart can beat like that for weeks and you will be ok. I am not saying its healthy but it has certainly helped me throughout the periods where my HR was in the 170’s

In the meantime feet up, cold drinks, keep your body temp down and try to relax and take your mind off it

Runlacie I am having to hold my scar as I can’t stop laughing at your dream! Oh gosh the tears are running down my face!

I keep dreaming about werewolves! I dreamed my hubby was one and it was so real when I woke up during the night and he asked me what was wrong…I asked him in a still drugged type sleep " You aren’t one are you" lol! I bet he wonders what the heck is going on with this woman of his lol

Thats about 4 nights I have had a similar dream lol!

Hey,

Just a quick hello and welcome! Deep breaths! We have all been there at some point and I hope that as you ask more questions and get peoples replies you will be able to settle more! It is very scary being diagnosed with this condition as there are so many warnings etc…

If you read back to one of my posts my tremor got so bad I was like an alcoholic with withdrawals – and I mean that not in a sarcastic way as I work with patients like that. They did settle, however, like Emily pointed out on the days I would over do it I would be shaking like a leaf and my heart was like the Edinburgh tattoo – off in its own rhythm – scary isn’t it? But try to remain calm and hopefully the meds will kick in soon and you will feel the benefit.

In the meantime we are all here and want to help and reassure you.

Love and prayers

Thanks Lakeview xx

The swelling in my neck is going down and for the first time today I could look at my neck goiter free! It was very strange as my neck normally looked like a hammer head shark and well now its just back to my normal neck with a little fine scar round the bottom!

Thanks again everyone I hope you don’t get fed up with me always needing reassurance xxx

Hey I gather synthyroid is what we call thyroxine over here in the UK? It sounds as though you are having anxiety dreams But its most likely now that your levels are coming into range you are going into a deeper sleep??? Maybe?

I know when I am pregnant (sure a lot of woman on here will agree) I went into the deepest sleeps and had more dreams lol.. These hormones eh?

Are you eating before you go to bed? It could all be a combination of settling levels, anxiety and your stomach.

Happy sleeping with sweet dreams lol!! xxx

Hey ,

Thanks for all your support! Don’t worry I am not stressing about the house (for once I all here you say lol) just all the emotional turmoil!

EWMB I am wondering if you are right about going hypo as I AM FREEZING!!! After many months of lying in bed with as minimal as possible to keep me decent  , 2 tower fans strategically places at either side of my bed (my hubby curled under several blankets   ) and eating ice cubes I am now resorting to fleecy pj’s/ socks in bed, duvets/ blankets and hot water bottles! I sit this way as I type again tonight! My hubby had to get me a hot drink last night at 2am he was working and noticed how much I was shivering! I think I am going HYPO with a bang! I remember when I was hypo before I had central heating on high and a fire as well as several layers of clothing! The nursery teacher made a very diplomatic remark that it gets very warm in my little one’s classroom…because I was freezing I was sending him to nursery with jumpers on when all the other kids had T-shirts

Ok a wee question – is this normal after surgery to feel as hypo as this? Yes thats the devil anxiety asking this. I don’t feel ill, my wound is nice and clean so don’t think I have an infection….

Thanks again for all your support! xxxxx

Hey,

Ok been there done that! Yes they monitor your WBC at each TFT – or well they should do! I am sure its the neutrophils that they monitor but think they take a full blood count to ensure nothing else is being altered…bilirubin etc… That happened to me after the thyroid storm and they took me off the carbimazole for 2 weeks redone my bloods but I had to change to PTU. If you are at all anxious just ask casually "oh how are these WBC"s behaving?"

Try not to worry too much these things are usually caught within a safe time frame! xxx

Hey,

Sorry for the disappointment indeed a bummer ! However, when I was all jitters for my op etc… I was offering it all up as Emily had said but you know what there is one person on this board who has become my GD soul mate and through all my problems/ pre-ax probs etc… I thought of her and how she can’t afford meds and having such a hard time and I got through it all with just the thought of her! Yes you know who you are!!!! She has such a crap time at the moment and she sat on facebook for a whole day – time difference and all waiting to here if I got my go ahead for the op – how lovely is that???!

So yeah it is a disappointment I can imagine after all you have been through but if it helps think of the people out there who can’t even get that treatment. It certainly helps me even though I am blubbering tonight I am thinking of my GD soul mate and how hard she is having it just now.

Hope it all settles soon!

Lots of love and prayers

Hi ewbe

I never thought about that at all! You could be right! I have been so aggitated for so long perhaps this is the come down. I started thyroxine on the Friday 750…
You are most likely right, that a combination of having a big op, being very anxious before and after and just the usual things that little old annoying me worries about but shouldn’t!

I do belong to a church but people have their own health problems/big families etc.. I had a good long chat with my wee mum and well I feel more settled. I don’t respond very well to medication I always have side effects so think the aneasthetic withdrawal isn’t helping also I know I have mentioned this before on here but they were injecting me with diazepam here there and everywhere and I always feel edgy coming off that or in my case just now lowering the dose! But the hypo thing is most interesting! Will read up on that in a few days if things don’t settle! I know that I was still toxic at the time of surgery but my surgeon decided to go ahead or else it could have been sometime before I would come back into a safe range so like you say my hormones could be all over the place plus the fact I DID take my period the day after the op – great fun eh??

However, on a positive note my highlight after all the problems after surgery was on day 4 when after monitors hooked everywhere keeping an eye on my little over active ticker….my pulse went down to 85!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! wooo and indeed hoooo! That was my moment of celebration! I haven’t had a HB that steady and slow in 8 months! <img decoding=” title=”Very Happy” /> <img decoding=” title=”Very Happy” /> <img decoding=” title=”Very Happy” /> <img decoding=” title=”Very Happy” />

Thanks again…. I really appreciate it I don’t know what I would do without you all! xxx

Yeah I have heard of split dosing – which I done when I was in the blocking treatment whereas now I am being told to take my thyroxine before my breakfast in the morning….

Ask you GP / endo they will tell you whats best!

Good luck xxx
