Not sure about GD connection but my mum, her 3 sisters and my maternal grandmother where all between the ages of 30 – 34 when they went into the menopause! When I was having my "crazy off the scale episode" they tested me for it because of the genetic history! Do you know what age your mum or grandmother was?

    Hey,

I had 14 scans with my last little boy but that was because the GD was active at the time. Everyday is a bonus!

    Hey Imr,

I was on PTU a few years back and am back on it as the carbimazole was lowering my WBC, on both these occasions I have experienced fluid retention and if you check the leaflet which comes with the meds – that is one of the side effects. My endo is unduly concerned but told me just to keep an eye on it to ensure it doesn’t worsen suddenly.

I would def recommend you liase with your endo at your next appointment.

This is a nice post and some great replies.

1.I have learned to try and be more patient with myself.
2.I have allowed myself to become more open about how this has affected my life and not try to keep up the persona of super woman!
3.I have certainly become more assertive – which was a huge issue for me , I could never say no to others demands – now I’m practically being assertive <img decoding=” title=”Very Happy” />
    4. Where possible I have taken charge of my own healthcare – keeping a record of my results rather than the receptionist at the GP surgery telling me "everything looks ok".
    5. I have learned to take a day at a time and on the bad days – a moment at a time.
6.I was so frightened of thyroid storms and now feel stronger that I survived one!
7.I have learned not to take health for granted.
8.I have always been a compassionate person but this latest experience has really humbled me and made me thankful for small mercies.
    9. I am made contact with some wonderful people on this forum, whom without I really would have struggled to come through the latest hurdle.
    10. I know that after coming through all the downs of this disease- 2 miscarriages <img decoding=” title=”Sad” /> , feeling awful, thyroid storm that I am so much stronger and thankful to God for bringing me through it all.

    Hey,

You sound as though you are having a really rough time. Its not an easy disease to live with especially when your mood can change within minutes – yep I have been there back and forth the last 4 years and a horrible time most recently. Please just hang in there, once your bloods start to settle more you will begin to feel better and more stabilised within yourself.

I think that you are correct that you should have your bloods done monthly. I was getting mine done every 2 weeks before I took the thyroid storm. There is no harm in calling your endo and requesting more frequent tests.

We are all here for you

    Love and prayers

Hi how are you feeling today?

I think Dianne’s advice is great….its not easy and you may even be reading these posts and thinking will I ever get to the stage of feeling able or well but believe me you will. We are all here for you – good days and bad and if you need to vent it out then this is a great place to do it. I thought I was going off my head a few weeks back and I got so much support and never once felt silly for posting on here.

Take lots of care and be gentle on yourself.

OK take it back I am having awful dreams the last few nights. However, I have been more active the last few days and feeling rather "hyper" as in wooohoooo over drive.. I wonder if it is due to an increase in adrenaline etc…

I remember my endo telling me that after I had been ill recently that my thyroid was making my mind think I was at a party all the time and I couldn’t come down from that because of it producing so much hormones etc at that stage…. So i guess that could be an explanation for "an over active mind".

It must be horrible for you to have recurrent nightmares and therefore you must be feeling shattered in the morning!

Could you possibly try a form of relaxation before bed time to see if that helps?

    Hi,

I am in the UK too and wish we has something like that over here! I know that there is the British Thyroid Foundation but not sure if they are running anything.

I am a member of a website called netmums. There are a lot of support forums on there one of which is for miscarriage support – however as a result of so many women on these boards who have m/c recently been diagnosed with some form of thyroidism they have started a Thyroid support forum which I was delighted about. Although a generic site, it is broken down into regions so it could be possible that you could advertise on there to start some kind of support group in your area or even just online????

Hey your daughter should be entitled to a free eye test. My optician was great when I explained that I had GD and she had a very in depth understanding of how causes weakness in the muscles etc… A very thorough test!

Hey I am a survivor of a thyroid storm and yes there is a huge difference. I was being treated for 4 years for GD. My levels were great during my last pregnancy that I was able to come off medication. However, within the space of 2 weeks my bloods had went from within range to off the scale and within a week to a major thyroid storm. You would know the difference between being symptomatic to hyperthyroidism and the onset of a thyroid stom ; a racing heartbeat, horrible palapatations as though your heart is ready to burst through your sternum that won’t settle with rest, excessive sweating (as though someone is hosing you down), a quake of a tremor, diarrohea and nausea. Its a very frightening experience one which I never want to repeat. I woke up in hospital with a crash team around me.

Your endo normally gives you info on them to keep an eye out for any of the above symptoms and if so to go to casualty immediately – my mum had to dial 999 as I collapsed at home.

If in doubt – get it checked out!
