PolishTym, thanks for the reply. I get what you mean about photographing. I can’t even take an ordinary every day picture without it being blurry.
Yep, in Ohio and yes they do have some large medical centers. I’m not to far from Cincinnati so if I chose surgery thats where it’ll be. Glad your surgery went well. :)

I needed to lose weight. I am 5 foot and I did weigh 204. I was just as round as I was tall, lol. I sure don’t want to gain weight back but my Endo said I’d gain about 10 lbs. for sure. I can handle that but I love being not so over weight, lol. I weigh 139 now. The losing weight was the ONLY good part about all this although I wish I didn’t lose so much due to illness.

As soon as I finished my last post, I called the Endo’s office and told them I am hyper and haven’t started any treatment yet. I may get in to see her on the 2nd of May instead of the 9th. Thanks so much for all your help. :)

Shirley, that would be great for some of you to help me with the questions list! Thanks so much for offering. I did mention to the new Endo’s office I was recently diagnosed with graves’ but did not tell them I was in the hyper stage and that I haven’t stared treatment. I called the 1st Endo’s office to request a copy of my blood work and uptake scan to take with me to the new Endo.
My heart rate has been staying around 85 to 90 since I’ve been on te Beta Blocker.

Alexis, I didn’t know you could ask for a urgent referral either. Nice to know that. I too have lost alot of weight with this but not a pound a day! Geez, thats alot! I lose about 5 to 8 lbs. a month.

I just called an Endo’s office to make an appointment for a second opinion. My appointment is May 9th. I should be able to wait that long right? This one specialises in graves’ disease. ;)

Bobbi and Shirley, thanks for caring and I called my Endo’s office yesterday to let him know I decided on the ATD’s for now. He has not returned my call yet. I’ve been looking at ME choosing a treatment option as a negative. Thanks to you two I am starting to see it differently. I had my aortic valve replaced and there was no other option. I wish there had been because that was rough… I’m on Coumadin (blood thinner) for the rest of my life and sometimes other medication interfer with that. I sure hope ATD’s isn’t one of them…

Oh I hate the tremors! Mine is in both hands and sometimes I just shake all over in general. Someone hugs me and they say they can feel me shaking. I write quite often or at least I used to.

How did you feel before and after surgery? No complications, right?

snelsen, thank so much for your response. Iy really made sense and helped.
My first appointment with my Endo is when he explained the 3 options for treatment. He was very professional, not so good on the compassion. When he was explaining the treatment options he also explained every complication that can occur and gave me the percentage rate of the complications. I was scared and unfamiliar with graves so I don’t remember to much of what he said. Some of the complications stuck in my mind, lol.
My second appointment was my scan. I guess the uptake scan, I don’t know.
After the scan he said yep just as I suspected you have graves disease, what treatment do you want. I was in no state of mind and uneducated about graves to say oh I’ll have the so and so. I wasn’t ordering dinner!

That appointment was on the 16th of April. Since then I have obsesses over what treatment is best for me.

    Hi Alexis!
Yes, it is very overwhelming! I am afraid to start the ATD’s because I too have had allergic reactions to medication. I am allergic to 5 different medications. I can get over that part of it because like always, when I start a new medication, I always have someone with me for at least an hour to make sure I’m ok but I always have a panic attack as well.
My Endo told me it (ATD’s) could cause liver failure at any given time and if that happened then there would be a liver transplant. I immediately said ok that’s not an option for me.
I am considering it now thanks to this forum. I love this forum. We all get to share our stories and support one another and people tell their experience with their treatment of choice. It really helps to know I’m not the only one.

I am not good at making big decisions like this. I don’t like the pressure of having to choose very soon because I feel rushed and I am hoping that it will just get better on it’s own.

Bobbi, you are right. I am not on any treatment yet to control my thyroid. My Endo asked me what treatment I want and I asked him if I could think about it and he said yes but not to take to long. I have no idea yet on what treatment options I will choose.

Kimberly, yes I have read about smoking increasing the risk of the eye disease. Funny how my Endo didn’t mention that but didn’t hesitate to inform me of the risks of eye disease and RAI.

Kimberly, hi and thanks for the reply. Yes, I am a coffee drinker. I drink 2 cups in the morning but the rest of the day it’s mountain dew. Yes I know bad but most of the time I drink caffeine free mountain dew. I am a smoker who has all intentions on quitting so I’m pretty sure I’ll give up the coffee as well. They kinda go hand and hand, lol.

I’ve had issues with anxiety and panic attacks for years so I am on Ativan and Zoloft. The Ativan seems to help with the severity of the shakes but they never go away completely.
Have you decided on a treatment option? I have no clue what treatment option I’m gonna choose. I think I’ve thought to much about it that my brain needs a break if ya know what I mean.

Alexis, I’ve been through the same thing with the doctors. I’ve seen an ENT, a GI doc, and of course my primary and was diagnosed with other things before I was properly diagnosed with graves. Diagnosed April 16th.
I’ve had panic attacks and anxiety for quite a few years so I don’t link that to graves.
As far as the z pack goes, I’ve taking it numerous times before and I was fine. It’s weird how it made you feel. Maybe you are allergic to it. Take care, Gina
