    Thank you, Kimberly!

My levels are stable but sometimes I feel I am heading towards hyper (and increase my dose of Methimazole to 7.5mg). I am not sure about the antibody level. It is not common practice to do the TRab test in Canada. I requested to have it done to make sure my TED was not getting any worse (I have moderate TED), and the levels came back normal. Both my Endo and Opthalmologist said they do not look at the antibody levels when deciding the treatment choice for patients with GD.

I was wondering how long can one be on PTU? I don’t hear a lot about PTU. My endo didn’t even suggest it when I told him I would like to have a baby in the next year or two. He was fast to tell me to stop taking Methimazole and do RAI. Im on 5mg of Methimazole and my levels are stable.

I was wondering whether or not thyroidectomy would cause the TED to get worse? I have moderate TED and my Endo was quick to suggest RAI. I voiced my concern that it would exacerbate my TED but he said he would put me on steroids for a week to prevent that. I am so worried my TED will get worse and told him I would prefer to have a Thyroidectomy instead. I had bilateral lower lid blepheroplasty last spring but the soft tissue/puffiness returned. I have been on Tapazole now for 2 years and would like to have a baby in the near future.

    Thanks!

    Hi Ange,

I can totally relate to what you are going through. I agree with the other the suggestion you get photos done early. I got married in Sept 2011, and wanted to post pone my wedding because of TED. I have moderate TED. I got pictures taken but I hate the way I looked, with the constant bags and puffiness around my eyes. I haven’t developed any of my pics, except photoshopped a few for our close families. Are you seeing an opthamologist? Maybe he could put you on prednisone or a steriod to take down the inflammation. I also highly recommend selenium. I wish I had known about it sooner. I take 400mg a day and my eyes feel so much better! The TED is really unpredictable. Try and get lots of rest and keep the stress low (wedding planning can be quite stressful!). When I get stressed, my eyes get worse.
    Good luck!!!
