You do need to heed the package insert instructions on hormone replacement about Soy. You should not take your synthroid, levoxyl etc. with Soy flour products.

My endo told me that if the antibody test comes back negative he doesn’t take much stock in it. He thinks the test isn’t very good anyway. Mine was negative but all the others signs and tests, including family history, were Graves.

Are you on PTU? I had horrible leg pain when I was on too much PTU early on in my experience with Graves and trying to get my numbers to change. I got up one morning and couldn’t stand up it hurt so much. They immediately cut my dose in half over the phone. When I got back to the doctor I switched to methimazole.

    Shirley,
If I remember correctly from what the directions on the restasis were you can’t use it if you have tear duct plugs. I guess those are removeable?

The dry eyes can definitely be Graves.

    Thanks Bobbi,
I think that you are right and that looking at the T-4 now and it being too high should be my marker until I start to actually feel better. The endo said it was my call to lower the dose some more and since I am still feeling very hyper I think I will phone her today and have her call in the lower dose.

    Shirley,
    Is cytomel the T-3?

As far as I have learned there is no difference in the active ingredients in synthroid and levoxyl. Levoxyl is a branded generic made in the US and had shown to be as stable on dose as synthroid. It doesn’t contain the same inactives and I found out that I am allergic to one of the fillers in synthroid- povidone- when I was taking a generic methimazole at one time which also had povidone in it.

I am just trying to figure out if my Free T-4 being so high is really what’s causing me to still feel so off. My tsh responds with the speed of frozen molasses so it’s hard for me to believe that it’s right sometimes…..

My tremors are probably one of the last things to go as I get toward normal levels about a year out from starting levoxyl. When I am sick or stressed they come back too. Hope yours get better for you soon as you adjust.

    Thanks Shelia,
I had the same dye put in my eyes and it seemed to vanish immediately as if by magic. I don’t have the burning sensation right now. I’ve only been using it two days but it’s not that hard since I was using the artificial tears already. Glad to know that it might really help the pain and the focusing problems I’ve noticed recently.

I had RAI but when I finally went hypo, which you didn’t do since you got replacement right away after surgery, I started on a much lower dose and went up gradually. Sounds like maybe you’re right and that your body just hasn’t gotten used to things yet. The one thing I asked at my last appointment to make it clear to myself was the fact that when we are stressed in some way or have to use more hormone in a single day or two the levels that we have left are not as consistent because we aren’t making any of our own hormone to go with the changes anymore so we may have some feeling of being off for a few days. Have you recently changed your activity level or had some really quiet days. Anything that would cause you to have used up more of your stores might make you feel "off" or more hyper since that’s really familiar to you. I think that’s what I feel sometimes especially when my body’s other hormones are acting up. Just my thoughts.

My daughter never really had any pain at first, mostly just the going so much. She’d have pain after the meds starting working and the infection was clearing up. Everyone’s so different. I think you are right to call and have her urine tested. Not a really big deal. They might even let you bring in a clean catch sample from home to avoid the bladder shyness at the office.

I had RAI in May 2009 and am still not at the quite right dose of replacement either. I have periods when I feel- felt hyper even when I wasn’t by the numbers. Slowly that is all going away I hope. As you said, since there are other things that can cause some of the same symptoms including perimenopause- changes in balance of hormones, know you’re not there yet but you said you were on clomid right now- that might be it. I am really sensitive to caffeine still and that can make me have palpitations and make your heart rate go up.

No she doesn’t, but is certain that she will get Mom’s thyroid thing when she’s older if you talk to her. She also knows she doesn’t want it! She’s almost 17 and saw me go through a lot. I just remembered that when she was getting the few UTI’s she’s had that’s what would happen. She’d be going and going to the bathroom saying she had to go but then not being able to go very much. She also got most of them when she was a lot younger.

I guess it could be a muscle issue since the bladder is involved and the muscles that help you empty it might be affected by the Graves like other muscles in your body are affected.

Sounds like my daughter when she was starting a urinary track infection.
