    Hyperm,
I am feeling more able too. I don’t know about feeling better yet. I’m glad that you are able to get walking. When your muscles start to become stronger again I’m sure the weight will start to come off. I am gaining too at this point. I have been on the hormone for five days now. I am feeling more like cooking again so we are going to start eating a little better again I think. We have some great local corn that we ate last night and I made rice and we had some pork chops. It’s better than bringing something home from town or cereal again. One step at a time is hard. I really want to jump ahead to wonderful again and my husband keeps reminding me how far I’ve come in the past few months.

Take care when you are out and about and enjoy your little ones. I sent one off to college a few weeks ago. They grow so fast.

    Julie,
It took me four months to change from hyper labs to hypo labs. I just started replacement hormone last Thursday night. I am taking Levoxyl. It does not have the povidone in it that we think made me break out in a rash with the generic methimazole. I am slowly starting to feel more able. I don’t know that I feel better yet. I have been able to get back to driving more than a few minutes from home. I actually can pick up my daughter from school now and am able to stay at work longer too. I hope that the eye drops will help.

    Julie,
The watering is from your eyes being too dry. They are trying to compensate with extra tears that don’t really fix the problem. If you have some OTC eyedrops without preservatives try using them when your eyes water. This was one of my early symptoms and after I was finally diagnosed my eye doctor said it was from the thyroid problems. I have had dry eyes for 16 years with my fibromyalgia. Some days are better than others. I have trouble in my office now that I don’t have a window and no natural light. I have to turn off the overhead lights and use a lamp by my desk. I am sure people walk by and think I am a vampire or something! Try wearing your sunglasses in the house too if it gets really bad or a visor to shield your eyes when they are sensitive.

    MIchelle,
I felt the same way two and half years ago. If you want to do RAI don’t let them talk you out of it. It is a viable option and it’s your choice. I understand too about the weight. I have several piles of clothes in my closet. Before hyper, very hyper, after ATDs, going hypo on ATDs, hyper again out of remission, depressed about RAI, having RAI etc…… I know people say to get rid of the clothes that don’t fit but economically that’s a disaster. I am struggling just to stay upbeat this week. My goal is just to try and drink enough water this week. I am waiting to see what happens to my period. I am close to menopause and with the Graves have been so off anyway. When I went hypo on ATDs I had an 11 day period! I am hoping that some of this bloating I have is water weight from that. I am also very weepy this last few days. I hope that’s hormonal too.

Try and eat well and take it easy after work.

Try sucking on some ice if you can stand it. It might help numb things a bit.

    Deb,
Maybe you could just make a short goal of say drinking 8 glasses of liquid a day. I find that if I do too much on goals at a time I can’t get anything done. I’ve never been to the Yukon Territories. I’ve been to Ontario and BC. My husband is originally from Ontario.

You are right about the knees. The older I get the more they creak.

    Julie,
I had a very sore neck and salivary glands for several days after my RAI. I wanted to sit very still so as not to make my thyroid feel like it was rubbing on my throat. Don’t know if that was really happening but it felt like it. I didn’t have a goiter and was never really inflamed so I think I felt it more sensitively. Keep on the OTC pain meds if you need to for several days. Keep drinking and sucking on something. It really will help clear that more quickly. I can’t remember about headaches but it was all so much insult to my body at once it seemed that everything made me upset. Hopefully today will be better.

    Deb,
I feel like I am in the same boat. I have gained a lot of weight since I was hypo first on the atds. I had RAI about 4 months ago and just turned a corner. I have gained several pounds in the last few weeks. I am going to start back on some kind of exercise and try to do my weight watchers again when I feel a little better. The weight should stabilize is what I’m told when we get euthyroid. Then your body can start to try and deal with it through exercise etc.. My numbers were actually somewhat normal at one month out from RAI. I then went really hyper and then just last week got numbers that showed hypo. Hang in there it will happen.

I am sorry about the radiation setting off the detector. That must have made for interesting talk at the border. Some lady says she swallowed radiation! Where do you live in BC? I used to live in Seattle.

    Lacie,
I am trying to enjoy the weekend. I too feel that even though I have been overweight for months now that I feel rolly polly and jelly like. My stomach hasn’t looked so big since I was pregnant 16 years ago. I am trying to feel good about getting healthier. I think that my hormones are all in a jumble still though. I read a story about a blind cat this morning in a magazine and I immediately started crying……. I also have three large pimples on my face and I’m not usually prone to these anymore. It will be interesting to see what happens. I hope to start after my son leaves to go back to college on Monday with a simple exercise plan. It’s been a long time for me and my hit and miss approach isn’t so effective. I hope that I can get back to work more of the day too.

Hope that you hear some good news on Tuesday. It’s hard to wait.

    Lacie,
Could be…….. I felt the same way going on Tuesday for my labs. I’ll be thinking about you over the weekend. I did drink some caffeine when I was feeling really low on my pulse to see what it did. It raised it a little but not very much and no palpitations either. I like your new word.

    Mamabear,
The way SKI explained it on one post I read was that at a certain point you really can’t be more hypo after a certain number. It’s just your body yelling louder and louder to make some tsh. I think that some of the other numbers I’ve read have been way higher than mine when they were finally caught after RAI. I think Krystal’s was really high. Can’t remember the exact number. Funny that it makes you freak out but when my endo called me back after I faxed him the latest labs he said "it looks like you’ve gone a little hypo." He never gets really rattled about anything and always has the same voice.

Thanks for the worry but I’m going to be ok after I can get through this initiation I think.

    Krystal,
If you see this I want to thank you for letting us all know about when you started the hormone replacement how bad you felt for a few days. I am feeling the wall hugging and my pulse is so low for me that I feel like I’m walking in mud. I know this will pass because of what you told us during your time.

    Hope you are well today.

I faxed my last two test results to my endo’s office this morning and he has already called me back. We agreed that going off the tapazole and starting levoxyl at 25 mg will be a great start. I will do that for four weeks and then get blood work done to see if it has moved the tsh down again. I will be taking Levoxyl brand instead of synthroid or levothroid because they both have povidone in them and we think that is what made me have the bad rash a few weeks ago.

Thanks for the high fives and hugs. I woke up from a 1.5 hour nap this morning and my pulse was 65! I really think this is it.

    Julie,
It’s all perfectly "normal" with Graves, the craziness I mean! We will be thinking about you tomorrow. Remember to take it easy this weekend. Glad that your doctor was able to talk with you yesterday.
