I had a TT last October after battling Graves since 2005 with MMI. I feel much better after the TT and would do it again in a second. In fact I felt better when I was in recovery. Good luck to you in whatever you decide.

‘Sup, DIY? Are you a “Do It Yourself-er”? :)

I’m going to a TT consult in 3 days. My main concern is losing my voice because I’m a singer.

I am looking forward to lying flat again….I’ve got goiter-related sleep apnea, so I’ve had to sleep sitting up for over a year.

    Do you have any TED?

Yes DIY does mean that, as a hobby. I love renovating my house and I’ve almost done the entire thing so now I don’t know what I’ll do…buy another? I guess not…haha, but now I do feel more like working than I have the last 8 years.

It will be 3 weeks post op Monday and I feel much better than before the surgery. As for the voice, I had no issues, no hoarseness at all, not even when I first awoke from surgery.

No, so far I’ve had no eye problems. My endo told me 8 years ago when I was first DX that it usually is one of the first symptoms but not always and if you smoke there is more than a 50% greater risk of developing it. I’ve never smoked so hopefully I won’t have to deal with it. Best of luck to you with your surgery.

Now I am nervous. I am having my thyroid removed on Monday. I didn’t do well with the methimazole and doctor wanted me to decide between surgery and the radiation. I have 4 kids so the radiation would be too hard to work out. So now I have the next few days to sit and worry!! I can’t wait to wake up and it be Tuesday!! I am looking forward to feeling better!!!

I had a TT last Monday and I feel better than I have since I was diagnosed 8 years ago. I took MMI for 8 years and now I wish I had done it years ago considering the way I feel now. It was not bad at all. For me the worse part was a couple days of sore throat from the tube during surgery. Best of luck to you.

Five days post op, best day yet. Sore throat is basically gone, no tingling in my hands since day two. I feel great! I’m so thankful right now!

OK, 14.5 week update: I just had six OUTSTANDING days. Felt good emotionally and physically, consistently, day and night. I have no idea if it is related to or just coincidental that my husband had been out of town for those days (and a few before that) so he he’s got mixed emotions about how good I felt while he was away. LOL

I had routine blood drawn Tuesday and a check up with my Endo on Thursday and I’m still on the hyper-side. My TSH is .03 and my free T4 is at the maximum end of “normal”. He asked me if I wanted to drop down to a lower dose of Levothyroxine or stay where I am for a few more weeks and see how I feel. I opted to stay where I am because of the six great days I had AND because I really want a break from the fluctuations that come with every dose change. He gave me two blood lab slips, one for before my next office visit and a spare in case I’m feeling “off” sooner than that and want to have my levels checked. He then suggested that if I want to try taking it down a notch he could prescribe some 100 mcg. pills to alternate with my existing 112’s. That will be the next thing I try if I don’t like how I feel at 112 in another month or so.

Please don’t ask me what my T3 was because my Endo doesn’t test for that and i’m done arguing with him about it. Except for that, I really like him and am not in the mood to start all over again with a new doc so I am just trusting that he’s right about not needing to check my T3. Apparently I am converting very well if I have no thyroid and I’m still at my hyper end. If I were feeling tired and depressed I would suspect I was not converting and would insist on a T3 test but since that’s not the case, I really don’t need to know. He only checks TSH and Free T4 in his TT patients.

I’m a little antsy today but that may just be the new routine of having an active household again as opposed to having the place to myself for 10 days. Or, it’s a slight hormonal fluctuation. Or, it’s because the doc told me I was hyper so now my sub-conscious is playing the part. Lots of variables, but I’m feeling much better than a few weeks ago.

Just finally got my prescription for methimazole. 10mg 3 times a day. Next appointment with the doctor is Dec. 11th. Can’t wait to start feeling better!

I took Methimazole for 8 years before having a TT just this past Monday. I never had any side effects from it, but they were always in the back of my mind. I never felt great on it but got through the day. I just always had a hard time coming to grips with removing my gland so I stuck it out. This summer it got more difficult to control, so I did it since I knew after 8 years remission was not happening. Educate yourself and learn what your body is telling you, best of luck to you.

Two days post TT and the only issue was yesterday some flushing and hot patches which is normal due to anesthesia, it’s gone today. Today the only thing besides the sore throat is a little sleepiness feeling in my hands which is normal. I’m taking my calcium supplements for a few days and hopefully all that will reside since there was no damage to parathyroid glands.

The scar looks good, I’m eating ok, it’s a little hard to swallow but doable and it’s improving. I still feel relieved from he shaking which I’m very thankful for and praying it stays gone. Resting BPM is about 10-12 lower. It wasn’t real high due to being on MMI but it was still too high for me. Just praying for continued healing and getting my life back.

SO happy for you! Great news. I also had a very smooth post op course.

Take it easy, and review the comments regarding the post-TT period. My biggest mistake was that I felt SO good, I did too much, too soon, meaning wish that I had let people do the more tedious stuff we all do, grocery shopping, laundry, cleaning the house…. It is also humbling that I was much more tired than I expected to be post op. The fatigue was a big factor for resuming my usual life. I found that sitting or lying down for a half hour in the afternoon was really rejuvenating. I’d never done that in my life. But it is perfectly reasonable and expected.

Use some of that time when you are really feeling pretty good, to do something that you have been wishing you had the time to do that is fun, or something that you need to do but never get around to it. In my case, sorting through photographs, getting rid of clothes i don’t wear. But the best thing I did was get away from home for almost 3 days to visit a friend in another state.

I felt the very same way! Was SO glad to move forward with the surgery. And an added bonus post op, was feeling really good, but still on sick leave from work, so organized drawers, took walks, went out for dinner, and even took a small two day vacation away from all responsibilities!
You will do well, the best to you! Keep us posted.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery! I had my TT on 8/8 and am very happy that I finally had it done. I had a 6 year remission (which was great while it lasted) but had struggled with maintaining stable levels over the last 1.5 years on ATDs. I will do my first labs on Monday and see my endo later next week. Overall, I feel better even though I suspect I may be a bit hypo on the replacement dose I started after surgery. I feel relieved that the surgery is done and i am onto the next step toward wellness.
