in reply to: New to the group. lab questions? #1182408
Hi Amber I am newly diagnosed also. I just got my lab results today:
3/28/11
TSI 226 (<=122)range
TSH <0.01 (.35-5.00)range
FreeT4 1.4 (0.7-1.9)range
FreeT3 .3.92 (1.71-3.71)rangeI started on 10mg a day of Tapazole and 12.5mg in am and 12.5mg in pm of Lopressor. After 3 days my left arm from the elbow down went numb and I was told to half the tapazole to 5mg. Did that and a week later my left hand is numb. Now I’m to half that but I can’t sit still, have a heart rate that sometimes hits 160 or better sitting down, have the night sweats, same issue as before the treatment. Not sure what is worse the drugs or the graves.
Finally heard back from the doc. Quit the Lopressor last night to see how my hand felt – no change still numb. Doc told me to stop the Tapazole for now and see how my hand feels over the weekend and if it’s better start back on only 5mg rather than the 10mg. She gave me my results but I don’t have the actual report yet but my FT3 was 3.92; FT4 was 3.71; said my TSI indicated graves along with my thyroid being enlarged; and I was in menopause too. Lucky me. Once I get the report I’ll include the ranges.
I don’t have any itching but my left arm from my elbow down is in turns numb, cold, hand feels like it’s burning – similar to when a blood pressure cuff is on and fully inflated. This start Monday with my pinky feeling numb.
I saw my endo on the 29th – she felt my thyroid and said the entire thing was enlarged and I have Graves. They took blood for a FT3 and FT4, and the TSI. My original TSH on 3/11 was <0.01 (0.35 - 5.00). My heart rate was hitting 200. She put me on 10 mg of methimazole once per day and 25mg of metoprolol 1/2 tablet twice a day.
Tried calling the endo but no return call. I’m not sure if I should discontinue and see if my arm clears up or try again tomorrow to call the dr.
Any one else have a similar experience?
in reply to: a bit of history #1182351On March 11 I had a TSH test (<0.01 range - 0.35-5.00) and at my endo appt today, the first, she said I have Graves. I had the TSI, FT3 and FT4 but no results yet. I've had the ringing in my ears for the past year, saw and allergist, an ENT, and finally the audiologist. He diagnosed me with moderately severe bilateral sensioneural hearing loss and gave me hearing aids but it's done nothing for the ringing-sounds like ciccadas sometimes. I thought it might have something to do with my retinitis pigmentosa. It could be Graves? Is there something I can do about it?
She put me on 10mg daily of Methimazole and 25mg twice daily of Metoprolol. I go back in 3 months for the radioactive iodine uptake and then decide on a course of action.
in reply to: Just diagnosed today #1182320I recently lost 15 lbs in 6 weeks and when my Dr. did a blood test on March 11 it showed 0.01 TSH. I have an endocrinoligist appt on the 28th and don’t know what to expect. From what I’ve read most cases of hyperthyroidism are caused by Graves. Is the uptake scan done by most or all endo’s? I live 2 hours from the appt site and since it’s on a Friday would I have other tests instead? Will medication fix the symptoms (trembling; heart palp; inability to concentrate)?
