in reply to: Results after Total Thryroidectomy #1174828
I love hearing all the positive TT stories. Mine is scheduled for December 27th. When I left the office and was handed the ‘neck cleaning’ stuff…. It all became very real…. I was getting really nervous the week after and was looking more towards RAI….. but I just cant do that so surgery it is and I’m not so nervous anymore. I’m not afraid of surgery, I’m afraid I wont feel good again and there will be no going back!
in reply to: just diagnosed with Graves disease #1174963At least 20yrs for me! Maddening isn’t it?!?!? It blows my mind how ‘daily’ new people are diagnosed with this disease. I have been on Methimazole for about 5 weeks now and feel better than I have in my life! I have cut out hard core gluten (wheat and whole grains) and anything diet…. use real sugar sparingly and dairy sparingly. Have a med check next week and if levels are in good range its under the knife I go:) Glad you found out your problem. I bawled like a baby when I was diagnosed….. not that I have Graves but was so happy I had ‘something’ and it wasn’t all in my head cause next stop was the shrink!
in reply to: Questions for surgeon. #1174749The special tube IS on my list…. one of my main concerns. Why wouldn’t they use it? Seems just dumb not to. And stitches are added! Leaving now, I will report back:)
I already take anti-depressants and 3 months ago after going to the doc all the time he just kept upping my meds like I was crazy. After the 3rd time, I changed docs. That doc new ‘immediately’ my thyroid was out of wack and sent me to an endo. I am now on my way to feeling better. If your levels show hyper/graves I would recommend a second opinion. I told myself, if this new doc says the same thing then I MUST be crazy and a shrink appt was my next stop……. but it was NOT in my head!
in reply to: Questions for surgeon. #1174747Just added 7 more questions to my list!
in reply to: Questions for surgeon. #1174746Thank You:)…… Going to check it out real quick before I leave.
in reply to: Does everyone gain weight with a TT? #1174696I agree….. I have found the answers here more informative than the Facebook pages for the most part.
in reply to: Does everyone gain weight with a TT? #1174694Thank You guys…… This made alot of sense and makes me feel better about opting for the TT. I have a surgical consult tomorrow to I will keep you posted.
in reply to: 1 week of 5mg Methimazole #1174622Hi Shakira, I to have been on Methimazole for about a week. I take 30mg every morning. I still have the same symptoms, but much severe…. I feel it working.
in reply to: Diagnosed with Graves 4 days ago. #1174589Thank You for your response. After reading alot of these threads and being on the GD Facebook pages I am noticing that almost everyone is on the Methimazole for very long periods of time. I’m almost positive he said he wouldn’t keep me on it for more that 2 months, but then again I dont comprehend alot of things right these days. But my daughter was with me and she thought he said the same thing.
From everything I’m gathering it seems with the RAI there are more problems getting the right levels going. With the TT if it goes well, which it seems most do, everyone is very happy with the outcome after they get their meds right which seems easier than with the RAI. It also seems more people gain weight with the RAI than the TT… is this right? As I’m researching and listening to people it seems they all opt for RAI but I hear better results with the TT. I dont want to do both, I would rather just get it done and over with and get my meds right and get on with life. I’m 45, pre diabetic, and menopause is just around the corner, so I would rather get this thyroid thing in check so I dont have to deal with all of them at once. I do know that could happen regardless.
Also, I have alot of cancer in my family…. mainly breast and vaginal. Cant the RAI trigger that? Its just that I’m in the last half of my life and want to do what is the fastest and easiest…. I dont want to be at the doctor every two month changing up my meds. I am not afraid of surgery.
I am on day 6 of Methimazole, not alot of change yet, I know its early but my tremors and sweating are less. I even stood for 2 hours straight watching a forest fire 2 days ago which blew my mind! I normally cant stand long enough to do the dishes. Sleep still sucks and my mind is still mushy, but I am seeing little bits of improvement with it. Ok, done rambling I think:) This is just how I’m feeling. I know it’s only been a week but this is where I stand as of now.
in reply to: Side effects of Methimazole #1174322Definately, mine was at 115 on propranolol so they switched me to atenolol which is much better. Reading the previous comments, I’ve noticed everyone spreads there medication throughout the day. Why is my doc having me take it all at once (3 10mg pills) in the morning. Because of the fogginess he told me I could take it at night now.
in reply to: Side effects of Methimazole #1174321I have been on Methimazole for 4 days now. I take 3 10mg pills each morning. I have also been having this foggy/tired feeling. I just got permission today to start taking them at night. I take Valium to help me sleep at night. I hope switching doesn’t keep me awake… I will me taking my first night dose tonight.
