A real positive is finding that there are people out there who are willing to be supportive & helpful to complete strangers. Thank you all. ” title=”Very Happy” />
in reply to: New Member – Trouble with the Medicine #1072419Hi,
My daughter was diagnosed with GD around the same time as you, however she was put on carbimazole, propanolol etc about 3 months earlier (Christmas Eve!!) as her levels were off the scale. She feels really sick too & often physically retches so the GP prescribed Cyclosine which she takes 2-3 times daily for the nausea. It seems to help some. I don’t knbow if this is a UK thing but maybe it is worth asking about an anti-emetic (not sure that’s the spelling )
Hope you get it sorted soon.
Catsmum xHi,
My daughter just got diagnosed but her levels were significantly different to yours:
fT3 11.2
fT4 31
TSH less than 0.01She didn’t have any symptoms which rang alarm bells for us, just thought she was the usual anxious, hyper teenager & her GD was picked up totally by chance. Now, however, looking back many of the ‘teenage’ things were actually the GD!.
Don’t stress about it. Wait & see what happens this week. It’s often the not knowing that is hardest so once you get all your results you’ll be better placed to deal with things.
Best of luck. xin reply to: Rapidly enlarged thyroid / thyroid bleed? #1072505Thank you all for the support.
I spoke to the endo & he is going to have alook at my daughter next week as he say’s he isn’t concernd. However, I am really worried as her thyroid has enlarged so rapidly in a few days. I’ve done a bit of research on ‘intrathyroid haemorrhage’ as it’s called but there is little out there other than case studies suggesting it is very rare, but apparently the increased pressure caused by the swelling can cause the airway or gullet to collapse which is lifethreatening. Not sure how the endo can be so laid back about this!
I was a bit surprised the thyroid enlarged when she went on the levothyroxine as I thought this was more likely to decrease the size if anything.
Poor kid is going through A-level exams & interviews for university enterance in summer so it’s not the best of times for all of this to happen to her. Also, can’t tell if mood swings are due to Graves or just ‘teenage tantrums’ lol. -
