Hello there,
I am not sure what causes it. I am a sufferer of regular edema, and pretibial myxedema. I am on a strong diuretic- supposedly to control one of the two-to no avail. Everytime I have to go to the ER the first thing they do is check my heart. So please take that into consideration.Sorry, not much help. Hopefully someone will have more scientific (medical) explanation that will benefit us both..

Being one who was very concerned during pregnancy, because of previous losses; I questioned everything. She must be very careful. True enough a good Endo wouldn’t have gone up just because of TSH. I also looked up alot of those meds, and they were a Class D on the FDA chart (A-D; D being the most harmful during pregnancy). I changed Endo’s at the early stage of pregnancy, because my doctor told me (when I questioned the class of all my meds) that she was more concerned about my Graves’ then my pregnancy; and that the health of my unborn child was second. Of course, with hightened maternal feelings, I was concerned about us both. I said that to say this; make sure the Endo has both mother and child’s best interest in mind.
in reply to: Babies and GD #1071040Thanks to everyone for your advice. I will definitely take it all in stride. He will be a year old on the 14th of June so I will definitely reiterate my concerns. I told them of his hitting and they said they’ve seen it just not in children as young.
I asked to have him checked but they didn’t feel the need. I will stop asking and demand it, just for my own piece of mind and to have a sort of base line.I went to the ER last Sunday and the doctor told me that my levels were "normal". That coming from her without seeing the numbers myself weren’t all that reassuring, but I plan on going and getting a copy of everything next week. Here where I live there are only two Endos. Both I have seen in the past, and I just don’t have the money or anyone to ask. I have not given up, I am now looking out of town for a doctor.
I know I need a break but there just isn’t anyone who can help me. I have a lot of family issues (a lot- you wouldn’t believe me if I told you). I could even go a step further and say there is no one else I trust to give me a break. I will get through this- I am a mother, I have no choice. Once again, thank you all!!!!
in reply to: Venting…DENIAL AGAIN! #1071163Yes, I am going to the hearing. I haven’t sent in anything yet because I don’t meet with my lawyer until June 4th. I will be sure to get a copy of the rules. I am hoping this hearing will work for me and not against me being they will physically see me; and can observe with there own eyes what shape I am in..
in reply to: Graves Disease and Dental issues #1071168Hi there,
I hope someone comes up with some kind of information. I have been having a lot of trouble with my teeth lately. I brush, and all that; but I wake up with pains and lots of sensitivity. I open my eyes each morning hoping I haven’t lost any…. ” title=”Sad” />I also don’t know about any of the other -itis, but I had osteoarthritis before my diagnosis and I have noticed an increase in pain; also bone spurs…
Sorry not very helpful.
in reply to: A little something to make you laugh #1071523I am going to have to print this and put it on our fridge for my dad and my fiance’ to read and learn…..
I am trully tickled!in reply to: depression and GD #1071497Hi, just thought I would give a lil insight as the daughter in college.
I was in my second semester of my freshman year when I noticed things weren’t really right. No one really knew to think it was a health issue; so it’s good you guys have found part of the problem- her Graves’. I got very discouraged when I would join study groups or spend hours on studying and assignments; then fail. I couldn’t understand why I kept completely going BLANK!
Spring of my sophomore year I dropped out because it just became to hard. I got really sick- depression is an understatement. I didn’t take very good care of myself to say the least. And because I was somewhat embarrassed my family had no clue that I was going through any of this.
So, continue to stay on her. Make sure she gets the care she needs. Family is key and the most important at these times. Whether she believes it or not.
Buttamamain reply to: Worry about cold/sore throat? #1071866I am somewhat like you and hyperm (hello there buddy ol’ pal?) I am one of those people that always seem to fall in the SMALL percentage.
If every one is sick then don’t fret; but if you get the kind of sore throat where you can hardly swallow and things look a lil sci fi in your throat..you may wanna get it checked.Once I thought maybe I had strep and so I went to the ER. The doctor had to catch his breath because there were actual blisters in my throat. At the time I didn’t know what it was and neither did he. I read later in a medical book that sometimes when the WBC get low that PTU can become overwhelming to your system. I was trully blessed because he only wrote me a script for pain and sent me home.
I later found out what he was suppose to do was complete take me off my meds, admit me, and give me some kind of antibiotic … So keep your eye on it..
Buttamamain reply to: Ponder this….. #1071785We all must think alike in someways. I took my children to the beach this weekend; I felt like crap….BUT it was beautiful out. I haven’t done any of that in so long it brought tears to my eyes to see how happy they both were to be outdoors. I have day by day since then, been cleaning house.
My birthday is Monday. I am a Spring baby!lol So I have decided to enjoy the sunshine whether I like it or not!
in reply to: eye and skin trouble #1071770I know the feeling. My eyes have been watering uncontrollably lately to the point of carrying baby wipes. I have had a rash on my face for months now. I was also told it was because of my thyroid. Did you need a prescription for that cream?
Buttamamain reply to: Something in on my eye? #1072089I apologize let me clarify I already have TED. I just didn’t know if this was a new symptom. I have had it for about 3yrs. now.
Thanks for all of your support. I will let you know what I find out.
Hello,
Just call me Queen Edema. I have regular edema and pretibial myxedema. I haven’t worn anything but flip flops on my feet in almost two years. I am not sure what causes it.I do know that the last Endo I went to discovered that the blood pressure meds that I was taking was not compatible with my PTU; and I was having bad swelling. Now, I take Metalozone 2.5mg. It’s a diuretic. I hear it’s pretty strong. Because I don’t have a consistent doctor I only take it every other day. But, I can really tell the difference. I could actually wear heels to an appt. and keep them on the whole time!
I hope they get it under control for you, because I know at times mine gets painful.
I don’t know what they are liable for? She told me before she did anything. "I will not write you a prescription, I will not change any medications, or advise you on any meds." So she says, " Since I said that what is it left? What do you want me to do?"
The doctor WAS "kind" enough to tell me; because two of the nurses were concerned it may have been a storm. "Huh, honey it’s definitely not a storm-you’re fine!" They do whatever they want and treat you however they want.
I don’t know if it is symptoms are because of my thyroid. However, the sweating at night and the jitters are.
I feel about the same
Thank you
ps Do you know how long it takes a package to reach the States?
in reply to: side effects #1072776Hi, I don’t really know what the difference is between what you were taking and PTU, but I was on a very high dose of PTU and the doctor wants to see if I will go from hypo back to hyper. Within the last three days I have been experiencing severe itching all over. It is rather frustrating; let me know what you find out.
