Please see a neuro-ophalmologist! You should have an MRI done. I, too, had lost periperal vision due to the swelling of the eye muscles and pressure on the optic nerve. Timing is critical.

Hi. I’m glad you were able to get the tape. Yes, I did have eye sensitivity and tearing before the orbital decompression surgeries. I still have light sensitivity at time, but sunglasses are a big help. The eye muscle worked the same day. I was able to see singularly before I went home. I am now able to drive, which is something I hadn’t been able to do for a long time. There are some minimal instances of double vision usch as when I wake up or turn my head a certain way. Overall, my vision is single and I am extremely grateful to God for the restoration. I will be having the first eyelid retraction surgery in two days. I am able to read clearly, see highway signs, and I don’t have to be close up to the computer screen. I am very happy with the outcome and wish you the best.

    Hi Shirley,

Either of these two facilities ( 1) Mercy Surgical 800-637-2950 or (2) Edgepark Surgical 800-321-0591 is where you can purchase Mepitac. I purchased from Mercy Hospital at about $25.00 roll + shipping. I was not able to find it at any store. Mercy usually ships the tape the next day unless it’s a weekend. In response to light sensitivity after eye muscle surgery, the answer is yes. My eyes were sensitive to light and still is at times, but it is more tolerable as time progresses. The hospital where the surgery was performed gave me some really nice shades to wear which helps a lot. The watering/tearing is no longer a problem. Blessings.

I recently had eye muscle surgery the latter part of June 2010 and am very pleased with the outcome. Single vision has been achieved. I had been using a prism in my glasses and no longer need to use it. Also, in response to your eye taping — which is something that I did for quite a while, I used Mepitac tape which was recommended by someone on this site. It doesn’t pull and hurt when you take it off. Since I’ve also had orbital decompression surgeries, I no longer need to tape my eyes. I wish you well in your journey. God bless!

I also had very high eye pressure and because of that the vision in my right eye was limited because of the pressure on my optic nerve. Had an emergency decompression by an otolaryngologist which was successful. Also was placed on Xalatan drops to prevent Glaucoma but was later placed on Timolol which is less costly. Hope this helps.

Hi. You should think about talking with a neuro-opthalmologist about your eye(s). It could be the onset of thyroid eye disease. Best wishes.

Yes, I’m now on the sixth day of radiotherapy (orbital). A mask was made to cover my face/eyes prior to the treatment(s). I’m told there’s a 50/50 success rate and yes, it will probably be weeks before I notice any significant changes. However, my endocrinologist mentioned that it might not do anything for my high levels of antibodies for which I have been placed back on methimazole for. It does feel as though my eyel are not as "poppy". I did have my eyes measured by the neuro-opthalmologist earlier this month. Won’t know if there is any real decrease in the eye protrusion until six weeks after the last radiation treatment. I still don’t look any better, though. I’m just hoping that there is no further vision loss. Eyes are itchy at times. I wish I could have attended the conference. I know it was very informative.

    Hi Lauren,

You have a lot to live for. With God, all things are possible. If we don’t have hope, there is nothing to look forward to. Sometimes it is hard to encourage yourself, but it can be done. We have our up days and down days. You are not alone. Please don’t give up! As a christian, Jesus is my strength. Yes, sometimes, I internalize and try to keep everything in, but I have had to learn to let my family encourage me and offer their support. I’m so glad that this forum is available because it helps to know that someone feels your pain — a sense of comraderie. I’ve had to leave my job because of TED and am now experiencing instances of diplopia. My eyes look horrible. Please–don’t give up. With God, all things are possible. I would welcome an email from you @ jejones77@comcast.net.

    God bless!

in reply to: Now My Eyes! #1068361

My prayers are with each one of you. I, too, have Graves Disease and Thyroid Eye Disease. I’ve had my thyroid removed, had a bilateral orbital decompression due to the pressure on my optic nerve and am approaching the onset of radiation for the TED. It has been a journey, to say the least. Hang in there!
