in reply to: Hypo and Hyper at the same time…sigh #1183190
Thanks
Yes, a second opinion is what I need. My Endo even recommended it.
My T3/4 is low based on the lab values and they have been decreasing over the last year. We graphed the results. Though when I cut my synthroid in half there was no movement in my TSH.
I am excited. There is a Thyroid specific clinic at the University of San Francisco Medical center (UCSF). They have some great MD’s. I hope that we will find some solution. It is a bit of a drive but worth it. If we get some balance.
Thanks for all the encouragement. I will let you all know if I learn anything interesting.

in reply to: Why is TSH more important then Free T3/T4? #1182637Thank you Shirley & Kimberly,
It is so empowering to understand. Knowing the situation and the possible outcomes allows me to have a productive conversation with my Endo.
I have a great Endo, and he is always willing to listen to me. Both of you have given me the ability to communicate with him even better. Knowing the possible consequences of the different choices, and having a week to think about it (as well as talking it through with my husband) I am sure that my Endo and I will be able to come up with the best treatment plan we can.
Shirley, thank you for sharing your experience. This is truly helpful. It is giving me and my husband a lot to think and talk about. that has been the challenge since I was first diagnosed. No one tells you about the long term consequences. I would have made some different treatment choices if I had known then what I know now. I believe you have given me a wonderful gift. Thanks so much.
Annin reply to: Graves eligible for Disability? #1182585Kimberly is absolutely correct. The people I worked with were able to get SSI but it was very difficult.
It sounds like there are a number of factors for you. The cancer, the anxiety, as well as the Graves. If you want to pursue this path, again Kimberly is right. Consulting a specialist is important. This is an area of law with many brick walls as well as many loop holes.
I can agree that the stress of functioning with the ups and downs of Graves is difficult. I am constantly impressed with all of us, that find some balance in life. While our thyroid is all over the map.
Good luck in finding the right balance for you.
