right now, my biggest concern about having OD is whether I will need an additional surgery to rise my lower lid.

my lower lid retraction is directly due to the protosis. So logically I would think the lower lid will automatically reposition itself after OD surgery.

However, to admonish this notion, i note that since the lower lid has been retracted for so many years, all the years since i had the proptosis, the lower lid skin ought to be permanently stretched, and also thanks to gravity, will remain retracted.

for comparison, its like an overweight person all of a sudden loses a lot of weight, their skin will sag.

according to your doctors, which notion is correct?

please note that the lower lid and upper lid are not the same. from what i heard, the lower lid will improve subsequently, but i’ve also seen cases where they didn’t

Hello – Hopefully, others will chime in to share their stories, but I don’t believe you will get a definitive answer.

From talking to other patients, I do know that *some* patients, but not all, saw improvement in the retraction issue following decompression surgery. Your own doc is the best source of information for this question — and unfortunately, I don’t believe it’s possible to make this kind of prediction on any given patient with 100% accuracy.

I had significant improvement in my lower lid retraction after my OD surgery. I only had a slight improvement in my upper lid retraction which I recently had surgically corrected.

I would definitely talk with your surgeon about your concern. Hopefully he/she will be able to give you an idea of the expected outcome for your individual case.

    Good Luck!
