I have made an appointment to see an eye doctor. I haven’t had my eyes examined in 7 years so now I think it would be a good time to go.

What should I ask him about my having Graves’?

I have a problem with bright lights and sometimes see waving things in front of price tags at the supermarket.

My neurologist said it’s from my migraines, but that was before I got diagnosed with Graves’ and he doesn’t know I have Graves’ right now.

I have pretty minimal TED so far, so the most useful thing for me has been that at the beginning they took lots of pictures in case my eyes changed later. And they have gotten a little worse since then so I’m glad the doc has the pics. They also measure for proptosis each time to monitor things. Outside of that they don’t really do much unless you are having severe issues affecting your vision – they want to wait it out the “hot phase” until the eyes stop changing.

Hello – If you are seeing an optometrist, I would suggest asking if he is comfortable monitoring any potential eye involvement with Graves’, or if he would recommend that you see an ophthalmologist for further evaluation.

It would also be helpful to document the symptoms that you mentioned for discussion during the appointment.

    Take care!
