How to start a support group when there isn’t one in my area would be really helpful.

Hi Liza – For info on the support group leader application process, you can contact the Foundation at info@gdatf.org or 877-643-3123. We’d love to speak with you about getting a group going in your area.

Support group leaders secure meeting space, book speakers, publicize the meetings, communicate with current and potential members, and facilitate the conversation during the meetings. Because the time and energy commitment is significant, we strongly recommend that potential leaders wait until they have selected a treatment option, been through the treatment process, and are back to feeling well before trying to get a local group going. It’s important to make sure that you are caring for yourself first!

Does anyone know if there is an existing support group in San Antonio, TX?

Hello – We don’t have a group in San Antonio right now; however, if you’d like to send your contact info to info@gdatf.org, we keep a running list of people who are interested in support groups in different parts of the country.

That way, if we do find a volunteer to start a group there, we can let you know.

To see a list of current groups, you can visit: http://www.gdatf.org/groups/

    Take care!
