Well the saga of my life always boils down to a little blood test to see is this girl is workin’ properly!

It has been quite a couple of years for me, my ds16 just turned 16 and has given me grief for a while, I finally found out why and it’s because my ex in laws don’t know when to shut their mouths. I have an ex is doesn’t live near us so my dh and I have raised ds16. DH has been in ds16’s life since he was about 14 months old or so. The stress of things that have been going on is a lot to take in as a mother to a teenager and a mother of 4 in general. I have a lot to do and yet I can’t because my life seems to revolve around ds16 and the issues that he has with me and dh due to ex in laws that thought they were doing right by speaking. I am at odds with them because it was a lie and of course confuses my ds even more. And to boot ds wants to be a teenager who wants to do his own thing…. Naturally right!

So here I am with not wanting to get out of bed, my bones ache, I can’t focus, certain joints hurt more than others and I have had an on again off again low grade fever for a long dang time! Last year I went through a lot with having a kidney stone, having surgery to remove it then right away having a major infection. Then during that recovery wound up with Lyme disease. Oh joy! Had a couple of months of feeling ok then started to have fevers again. 99F isn’t so bad but when your normal temp is 97.7 or around that 99.5-100.1(f) is low grade.

So off to the dr. I went again last night, I was there a few months ago for fevers and back pain and she thought kidney stone again but those tests showed up negative. I have upper back pain now as well as lower back pain at all times but then I have 4 kids and I’m a mom so I started to try to strengthen my back and it hasn’t helped. During the testing for kidney stones, I wound up with another tick bite and it was a deer tick and since I had a bad reaction to it was put on 3 weeks of antibiotics. I was ok for the most part..no fevers. Until last week.

So dr. is running thyroid testing and inflammation testing as well and said if all comes back ok she wants me to see a rheumalotigist.

I am certainly ok if my levels are off, I have been in remission for a very long time and I have way to much going on to be upset about coming out of remission. I know some would say with everything going on you should be upset because you dont have time for it but you know what, when life says slow down you must slow down.

Dr. asked me last night if I was loosing weight, I said no I’m a steady 145-150lbs but I eat so much. SHe remembered that when I was first diagnosed 10 years ago that I didn’t loose weight either at first. It’s nice to know she remembers that, I’ve been with them since 2000 so we have a long history together. Its even better that their pediatricians see my kids and have since ds16 was 4 yrs old. it’s been a long time and I know I’m in the right hands.
If she says I need to see a Rheum I know she knows what is best for me!

    Guess we’ll see what happens!

Well my Thyroid levels seem ok.
The inflammatory tests as well seem fine.

    TSH 1.48 (range: .40-4.50)
    T4, free 1.3 (range: 0.8-1.8)
    T3, free 2.8 (range 2.3-4.2)

I thought that maybe I was going hypo but it doesn’t seem that way even though I have many symptoms. Not sure what to do now. Guess we’ll see what dr says…I got the results before I was suppose to <img decoding=” title=”Very Happy” />

I understand! It is frustrating to feel crappy when you can’t find a cause that can be "fixed." Am having some of the same experiences. No appetite, not a happy GI system. Endocrine, cardiac seem ok, they are the first things to blame for big time fatigue. And then there’s TED! I just cancelled a huge eye surgery, two procedures on both eyes. Just seemed wrong. 5 hours of a general? I don’t THINk SO! Still considering, the palatal graft for lower lids, but still wanting to hear from more people and their experiences-past the usual post op visit, and how food tastes when the palate heals. Got a retainer just to try, and gagged every time I tried to remove it.
What does ds16 mean? That must be a child.

Went to a Rhuematologist yesterday. She is running anther thyroid panel which I find to be odd since I just had one two weeks ago and everything was perfect.
She said this could still be a thyroid issue.

She is also testing me for more autoimmune diseases and testing my Lyme again. She thinks Thyroid or Lyme at this point.

My middle toe is now in pain, it seems to be the joint. She says I have a lot of tension in my muscles on my shoulders as well and for the 2nd time in my life my blood pressure was a bit high. (1st time was when I was told I gained 10 pounds in 2 weeks during a pregnancy visit. I was like you dont tell a woman that BEFORE you check her blood pressure!, they retested 20minutes later and it was fine tho lol!)

Guess we’ll see. I find it hard to belive that with a TSH of 1.49 that this is thyroid related.

I have been in a wirlwind of emotions today. Very busy with so much stuff and unable to focus. I am not sleeping well at all, tried to relax and a fat lot of good that did.

I received a partial report from labwork that dr. took last friday. I know we do not interpret results on here but I am confused as to what she did and I didn’t want to google it because I know I don’t feel well, having a hard time breathing(allergies are bad and dr. is aware) so I’m trying to rest and I don’t want to get upset for no reason.

Thyroid Peroxidase AB (Range <35 IU/mL) mine is 86 and says out of range
Thyroglobulin AB (Range <20 IU/mL) mine is 32 and says out of range

CK total is 85 it’s within range
Rheumatoid factor is within range as well
My lyme tests are confusing so I’ll have to wait for the final results of that one. Clearly lyme is there though and it seems that my Vitamin D is 29 when it should be between 30 or higher.

My concern is the thyroid stuff the lyme I’m upset with but know all I can know about it. the other stuff I just don’t remember anymore, my brain is just not doing well today.

Thank you for any info.. I’m hoping to get some rest so I can search this but sitting at the computer just isn’t working right now with these allergies. Lots of nonfun stuff today…but hey at least I have some answers even if it will take a few to figure them out lol.

i forgot to put this up here..
My results for 5/9/11 are as follows. which makes me confused as to why the dr thought it could still be thyroid even though these results were fine.

    TSH, 3rd generation 1.48 (range: 0.40-4.50)
    T4, Free 1.3 (Range: 0.8-1.8)
    T3, Free 2.8 (Range:2.3-4.2)

Wouldn’t I still have antibodies from being in active Graves disease from years ago, thus the results showing high? I can not find any results that show that these tests were ever done on me…naturally! lol

Dr. called me yesterday said my Lyme titer was better and is currently showing that I do not have active lyme. Of course it does show that I did but I’m very glad that it is not active at this point. The "bands" that showed I was positive last year are fewer now so very happy with that.

She said my Vitamin D is on the low side and wants me to take suppliments and be serious about it. She said this could be the reason for all of my issues. I never thought that I would be deficient in "d".

She said my Thyroid Peroxidase AB and my Thyroglobulin AB was also fine and because "you do have graves disease and naturally you would have antibodies even if it was from years ago".

I need to know if this is true?
I looked at my old records and the only antibody test I ever had was right after my initial diagnosis and that was:
Thyrogolbulin AB (range: < 2 Iu/mL) and mine at the time was 25

    Thyroglobulin AB (range: < 2 Iu/mL) as of 5/20/11 is 32
    Peroxidase is currently 86 (range: < 2 Iu/mL)

So my question is: I’ve been in remission 4 years with no medicine at all, I have an intact thyroid. Why would it show antibodies, do the antibodies we develop never go away?
If they never go away does that mean it will always show even when my TSH,T3,T4 are fine?

Also, very interesting… I am white, pale skin, the dr. said that I have this lacy pattern on my arms. If you look at the part of my arms where the veins are you can see a lacy pattern, it’s more noticeable when it’s a bit cold. The dr. said that this was due to having an autoimmune disease.
Has anyone ever heard of this?

I ask because my kids also have this pattern. Not all of my kids are pale white like I am but at least 3 out of the 4 have it. If anyone has heard of this please fill me in. lol

The antibodies are a constant, once the body has developed them ~ think of it in terms of "normal" antibodies. Once you’ve got antibodies to chicken pox, they stay with you, and if you are exposed to chicken pox, they attack and destroy the disease cells. They don’t go away after you’ve fought off chicken pox one time, they remain in some number so they can replicate and do their job if you need them.

So the antibody levels may rise and fall, but they will always be with you. If they’ve been successful affecting your thyroid, then your hormone levels will change. Once you’ve had RAI or TT, the antibodies still exist in the bloodstream, they just no longer have a target.

I have heard something, vaguely recalling, about a skin "look" that can point to autoimmune disease, but I don’t know details. It’d be interesting to hear more about that ~ anyone else heard this from their doctor?
