I started seriously on the Weight Watchers regime again and have lost a couple of pounds, probably water. I have realized over the last few days that I really am not as hungry as I was when I was hyper. Drinking enough during the day and keeping track of it has helped that. I am three weeks on my levoxyl and starting to feel like it might really be doing some good. I had a bad episode with vertigo yesterday. Can’t figure that one out. I really had vertigo badly when I was really hyper. Maybe it’s coming back the other way toward normal that’s causing that. It was much better today.

I haven’t really started exercising yet on a consistent basis. I feel like getting myself to and from work with some housework thrown in there is good. My afternoon naps are getting shorter too.

Keep up the good work everyone.

Hi everyone,

Three weeks since RAI. I have not started to gain yet! I am eating under 1000 cal a day. I am only allowing myself yogurt, protein drinks, fish chicken, and veggies. I am staying away from the bread. I am pretty upset that I cannot work out right now because after my immune system hit my thyroid it then decided to attack my joints. I have pain in my right hip and right knee. Never had a problem before. I still do yard work, and run around all day long. I think that helps. I think that perhaps, that because I was so hunger all of the time with being hyper, that I might get lucky here and not gain too much I really hope!!!!!
I am not very hunger right now, but very thirsty all of the time, Has anyone else been really thirsty after RAI? I drink so much water I think I am flushing out everything I eat. I am starting to get tired in the afternoon for the past few days; I usually fix that with a medium coffee from Dunkin Donuts. My endo appointment in scheduled on October 29, @ 7:20 am in the morning, I have an hours drive to get there, not looking forward to that. I have some lab sheets from my endo that she gave me back in July. I would just like to if I am any closer to being normal. How long did it take everyone else to notice weight issues after RAI?

Hi Julie! It wasn’t until my second month that I really started having bad weight trouble. I was clinically in the "normal" range at my one month labs, but still felt slightly hyper. Soon after that, I had about one week where I felt GREAT, and then crashed at about week 6. Had more labs at 6 weeks, and still clinically "normal" but pushing the hypo end of it. I was feeling bad, gaining fast, and endo refused my request to begin meds. At my 2 month labs I was finally hypo (29 was my TSH) and finally got my meds. I feel better again, back to GREAT and this is only my 3rd day on Levo. I have lost a couple pounds in just the first few days- I’m sure it’s some of that puffy water, but whatever- I’ll take it! Great job to you on not gaining- it’s rough- and eating less than 1000 is a challenge. I felt hungry when I went hypo- like if I could just have food/sugar/carbs that it would give me the energy I was lacking. Wow, you will have to leave pretty early for that doc appt, huh? Keep us posted!

ewmb! Hey, glad to hear you’re doing well! And also that WW is working for you! I’m sitting here eating one of those WW Smart Ones for lunch- Chicken Parm w/a FF dressing salad. Chicken Parm is my fave, but they have some good ones. Not sure what to say about the vertigo??? You are still on 25 mcg? Or did you just up it?

I ran 8 this morning. My cold is finally about gone. Heart rate stayed just where it should. Finally. Now if I could just get my legs to feel good and move faster. I feel heavy on my feet- like I’m plodding- and not light like I used to. But I have incredible energy again. I actually stayed up later than DH last night for the first time in ages. I think I can cut back to just one pot of coffee per day now, haha.

I used to be able to fast when I was younger…. Don’t know what happened to me, but now the thought of "fasting" makes me anxious, and uncomfortable. Since having kids a few years ago, I [b:3u38irbb]have to[/b:3u38irbb] eat? I come from a culture where it is thought of as healthy, to have "an apple Wednesday" or any weekday with any small amount of food, and water. I know that it helps the body to get rid of oxidants, along with eating anti-oxidants, but the thought makes me uneasy now. Thinking of eating under 1000 cal a day, or about calorie-restricting diet, makes me uneasy again. What is wrong with me????

So instead of limiting the intake, I would rather concentrate on being active and getting rid of the intake.

I’ve felt that I needed some sort of a boot-camp to jump-start my activity level, and never let it fizzle. I think I’ve found a solution. With the winter season coming, I have signed up for ski patrolling. To ski 11-hour days!!!! Never skied as many hours a day, but what the heck. Hopefully will get a nice firm bod after this amount of exercise!

So at last weekend’s weigh-in, I was down a pound (WOO HOO!) to 140.8, but all my clothes are feeling really, really tight. (D’OH!)

I am still struggling with the urge to stress eat. Actually, it’s more like "anger" eating. My termination date from my job is on 10/9, and the head of our division is being a complete insensitive #$%&!*@#!. I am really trying to find some other activities (reading, walking, etc.) that will be a distraction.

I got the OK to start exercising again at my last endo visit, and I am thinking of calling the office to see if they have a physical therapist they could recommend. I don’t want to overdo things on my own (which is my tendency), but I have *got* to start getting rid of this fat and start re-building my lean muscle mass!

Oh, and in case anyone forgot, Halloween is about a month away…then Thanksgiving…then Christmas. The weight loss thing is not gonna get any easier. Good luck to all of us!

Hey all

Ach this weight thing is real killer isn’t it? I am just going up and up and actually am getting more fatigued. Have to wait to get my bloods done on the 23rd to see if they should increase thyroxine! Oh please say yes so I can loose like 14lbs at least – so depressing and I feel horrible physically never mind emotionally with this excess blubber!

I really want to leave the car where possible but I am so tired. Can someone recommend the foods you are NOT supposed to eat if you are hypo? Baring in mind if chocolate is on that list I will be glossing over it ! ha ha

Take care everyone – looking forward to a catch up xxxxx

Just checking in too. I have lost 5lbs on my WW regime again. That feels good but I don’t. Still probably too hypo. Another two weeks and then I can go up again on my levoxyl. I have a UTI and the medication is making me sicker than the infection. The first one I was on made me hurt so much that I had to come off it. This one is giving me headaches and wooziness etc.. I know that it will pass. Had my regular flu shot as well. That made my arm hurt for a while but didn’t do too much I think. Hard to know what’s what when you don’t feel well from an infection.

Keep working on things day by day and keep smiling when you can.

I’m currently off my ATD’s for 3 weeks. Preparing for RAI on Nov. 6th. SO, my weight is 120lbs. I weighed 112lbs. when I was DX 2 years ago. Prior to Graves DX I weighed 120lbs. for 10 years straight. I’m really hoping to maintain 120lbs. I guess we will see in a couple months

I have lost a few pounds in the last couple of weeks.

I’ve finally gotten moving — tonight was my first salsa lesson and for the last few weeks, I’ve been working on the exterior of the house — I started by washing the siding and then the siding’s being painted.

Just the front of the house — the rest of it will have to wait.

The paint is kind of a tint — I’d call it a very soft light yellow, a bit more yellow than an almond color. The front door is a russet red.

I’ve felt pretty good throughout — all I’m down to now is sore muscles from working on the house.

The job is about 90% of the way done — we hope to finish it by the end of next week since it’s getting kind of cold.

Now I can display my Halloween decorations.

That’s awesome…congrats! If you don’t mind me asking, are you doing exactly the level of daily POINTS recommended for your height, weight, etc.? I have been playing around with just cutting back a few POINTS from my maintenance level, but that just isn’t cutting it. I gained 2.2 this week to 143.2.

My thyroid levels were stable as of last month, but my hunger-o-meter seems to be perpetually stuck on "starving" — so the idea of going back to 19 POINTS a day is a little scary right now.

I have *got* to do something, though, or I won’t have any clothes to wear!

Kimberly,
I am doing the number of points for my height weight age etc. with no activity level added for loosing. When I was on maintenance a few years ago when I was hyper I was eating whatever I wanted. I am using my extra points each week sporadically. I am not counting any activity points at this time either so for me that’s 21 points per day right now. I am making sure to get all my liquid in for sure and am making myself eat up to my points every day even if I’m not hungry.

My leaders over the past have said that a plateau can be kick started with lowering your points for two days and then going back to your regular points for two days and then lowering again for two days but then you should try and be steady for a while. I haven’t ever had to try that so don’t know if it really works. You might go back and redo your initial assessment of how many points you should be getting per day again from your beginning book if you still have it. I have aged up since I did it years ago and know I am not active at all really. I will get there some day.

I have been trying to eat more nuts and using olive oil and eating peanut butter too. The Prevention Magazine has a flat belly list of foods that seem to help get rid of the bloated belly. I have noticed a difference. I’m not doing it all but am taking bits and pieces from it.

Yep, sounds like I’m gonna have to suck it up and do exactly that — after I get back from Charlotte!

Thanks for the response!

ewmb- Great job on the 5 pounds!!!!

MadameX- WOW, sounds like you have been busy- way to go!!!

I’m still at 142- been here a couple a weeks, so at least I stopped gaining. Been trying to track everything and exercise. Right now I guess I’m okay with just staying here until my Levo dose gets upped and then hopefully I can lose it. Still 3 weeks away from seeing the doc and having labs done. I can tell that the 50 mcg I’m currently taking has made a difference, but I’m fairly certain I’m still hypo. Resting pulse still goes in the high 30’s and I feel very tired like all I want to do is be a slug. I have been using a diet I got from Women’s Health magazine and trying to follow it during the week. I get to have protein shakes which are pretty yummy. But still find myself carbo binging now and then. I feel like eating carbs will perk me up and get me moving again, so end up eating cookies and then have to skip my dinner to make up for the calories!!! It’s been difficult to make myself go run when all I really want to do is take a nap. Heading out there now into the cold and rain!

Are we allowed to use swear words on this board?

Up another .6 to 143.8 — I have GOT to stop this gaining cycle! Of course, I didn’t say "no" to the pecan pie or the creme brulee in Charlotte, so those choices probably didn’t help!

I am starting to do my Weight Watchers tracking online…hopefully, that will give me a kick in the tail to get back on track. The WW web site also has a section where you can create your own blog, so I have started writing about my weight loss and thyroid issues. If anyone here frequents the WW site, my blog is called "Paddington Station".

Here’s hoping for a better report next week…

I’m still going and I still feel pretty good. It’s almost like old times.

Fooey. I was working up a good sweat at the dance lessons on Wednesday and then it was time for the end of the lesson.
I was just getting my groove on, too.

I got a "pretty good" workout today — I spent a horrific afternoon with a car that overheated; the car is at the dealership (they don’t know why it’s overheating; no leaks and there’s more than enough coolant). All told, 4 hours — the tow truck drove me home. In the old days, I’d have been whipped from the stress and frazzled and been ready for a nap the second I got into the door…I arrived home 5 hours ago and I’m still rarin’ to go.
