hi all. Was just reading many posts re. weak muscles, esp. legs, associated with GD. For myself, I go thru periods of legs feeling not normal as I would wish, but passable. It is always difficult to bend down (squat)-like getting things from low cupboard. Have to pull myself up on something. For 4 months, I have walked the beach of Northwest Pacific -couple miles daily – always knowing gotta keep moving, keep the strength I do have. Sometimes, legs hurt, and as I have read here, legs feel like hauling around 2 cinder blocks. Bad happening recently, totally out of the blue. Was taking a bath (soaking helps legs). Washing my hair, I kneeled and rinsed hair under tub faucett-instead of via shower. Noticed lots of shaky leg muscles, twitching, weak, as I kneeled, bending down into the faucett… but I would not be denied! I got stubborn!! I should not have done this! Just that simple action, brought on 3-4 days of terrible pain, actually had a problem to even walk. My calf muscles simply would not work as they should, stiff as a board, would not flex. Alot of pain. Trouble keeping my balance. By 4th day, things improved – I could balance myself, and muscles were flexible, to a degree. Over & over again, this disease makes me so discouraged – for I know I do stuff in order to keep my muscles strong as poss. Then simple thing (as above) hits me/scares me, too. Well, folks, Onward & upward. Keep on truckin’. right?
I wake up a lot of mornings and my legs feel like they were cramping all night long. Last night, my legs were killing me before I went to bed. I try not to take a lot of over the counter stuff, because of my meds. I decide to try “Ice Hot” (this is what I had on hand) and was amazed at how well it help. I don’t know if anyone else has tried this, but I thought I would let you know how well it did work. It is external, so I don’t have to worry about interaction with my meds.

Thanks Julie for the tip! I will try this as my legs do the same at night!

Same problems here. I also get extreme swelling. I have to take a water pill for it every day or two.
I tried Glucosamine with Chondroitin and it helped me. The doctor also didn’t want me to take more than necessary. This helped.
