Hello all,
I just wanted to update everyone on our twins who were born with Neonatal Graves. They are now 2 as of yesterday, and are doing great. They are still developmentally behind a bit, but are getting along well.
Ava had her 3rd brain surgery in December of 2009. It went well, and she is doing great. She was in the hospital for 5 days, and couldn’t see for 4 days. This is actaully the second surgery for Craniosynostosis(which as been known to be caused from Neonatal Graves). We are having to go to see a Nuerosurgeon in two days to check on her shunt(a tube placed inside of her brain to drain fluid, often called water on the brain). She has hydrocephalus(which is sometimes also known to be caused by Neonatal Graves). She started developing drainage around the shunt a couple of weeks ago, and the doctors adjusted the shunt flow. So we are going back to make sure that the shunt is not failing. It seems to be working fine from my veiw point, as the fluid has not stayed, and has drained away. I hope this is the case.
Ella is very active, and is really still only stuggling with speech, but that is not the case for Ava. She is just starting to walk, and has a few words to say. She is starting to gain weight as well. She just hit 18 pounds, and Ella is 21 pounds.
All in all they are doing great. I hope this continues to go this way.
Thanks,
Valarie
