"Well, it’s been a long while since I have been here so I thought I would give an update as to where I’m. Having the thyroidectomy in 2007 (right side only) I felt a lot better until the symptoms returned in 2008 but with a few added extras! This is when I began having eye swelling, vision problems, excruciating shin pain along with the tremors and racing heart, my face at times feels like I have a major sunburn, oh yeah when the sun is too bright…look out, I can’t see anything. My Endo put me back on steroids and I also started on Levoxythroid and Hydrocortisone then followed up with my Ophthalmologist for my eyes. The recommendation was radiation treatments, which I underwent in December 2009. The treatments went well and reduced most of the swelling but I’m still left with double vision, can’t see downwards and hardly have any peripheral vision. They say there isn’t anything more they can do? Due to the steroids I gained more than 25lbs, which only made things worse as I was already out of breath most of the time! After my radiation treatments I returned to work the first week of January 2010 where I had been an Activity Director for 4 years, and in February I lost my job. Anyway I was taken off of the steroids in February and then noticed a bump on each of my lower shins. I went to my GP and she sent me for an ultrasound and then referred me to a dermatologist. She did a biopsy to the largest bump on the right shin, and it was pretty strange…a lot of sticky substance was under there! I now had PM and the funny thing is the bump is completely gone! When the dr. called me with the confirmed results and I told her this, she said that wasn’t a treatment! I still have the bump on the left, which I’m, suppose to use a steroid cream. My levels were low about 2 months ago and my endo took me off of the Levoxythroid and cut the hydrocortisone to 1/2 tab daily but I still can’t seem to kick the tremors and racing heart, which is worse in the am and before bedtime. I was also diagnosed with osteopenia but the fosomax doesn’t agree with me. My joints, especially my fingers are so sore and I’m now having pain in my right jaw and ear. I know this will never go away but I’m looking for what everyone else is…a happy medium if there is one! I’m just grateful for what I do have aside of this GD, I have a wonderful husband, kid’s and grandchildren that I love dearly and are all so understanding."
Hello, thanks for writing. Sorry you have not had any responses, but you are getting one now! (:
I am writing to your comment about no treatment for double vision. Not sure how much you explored this, but there is a marvelous surgery for double vision. It is called strabismus surgery. Usually an eye surgeon does it. Frequently, they have a large pediatric population, for this is a common procedure for little kids and babies when needed. I had this done on both eyes. I had terrible, life changing, debilitating double vision-which is now GONE! The surgery and recovery time is easy, and I strongly suggest you explore it.
I am so sorry you have had such a difficult time.
