I can’t believe how I felt as soon as I got in my room, immediate relief! No internal shaking, trembling for the first time in 8 years, (been on MMI 8 years) heart is pre Graves at about 65bpm, all 4 parathyroid glands are fine, no vocal cord problems, not hoarse, and no nerve damage. I just have a sore throat when I swallow but I have kept an ice pack on it since I’ve been out and it’s not bad. I haven’t needed any pain meds.
I ate chicken noodle soup last night about three hours post op and a turkey sandwich about 1 hour after that. Thank God for my surgical team they did great. When I get this dose sorted out in the coming days, I’ll be back to feeling good again!

SO happy for you! Great news. I also had a very smooth post op course.

Take it easy, and review the comments regarding the post-TT period. My biggest mistake was that I felt SO good, I did too much, too soon, meaning wish that I had let people do the more tedious stuff we all do, grocery shopping, laundry, cleaning the house…. It is also humbling that I was much more tired than I expected to be post op. The fatigue was a big factor for resuming my usual life. I found that sitting or lying down for a half hour in the afternoon was really rejuvenating. I’d never done that in my life. But it is perfectly reasonable and expected.

Use some of that time when you are really feeling pretty good, to do something that you have been wishing you had the time to do that is fun, or something that you need to do but never get around to it. In my case, sorting through photographs, getting rid of clothes i don’t wear. But the best thing I did was get away from home for almost 3 days to visit a friend in another state.

    Hello DIY,

I’m glad everything went well and you feel OK.
With a little TLC and the right dose of Synthroid you’ll be up and around in no time.

    Take good care.

    Hugs.

Two days post TT and the only issue was yesterday some flushing and hot patches which is normal due to anesthesia, it’s gone today. Today the only thing besides the sore throat is a little sleepiness feeling in my hands which is normal. I’m taking my calcium supplements for a few days and hopefully all that will reside since there was no damage to parathyroid glands.

The scar looks good, I’m eating ok, it’s a little hard to swallow but doable and it’s improving. I still feel relieved from he shaking which I’m very thankful for and praying it stays gone. Resting BPM is about 10-12 lower. It wasn’t real high due to being on MMI but it was still too high for me. Just praying for continued healing and getting my life back.

Five days post op, best day yet. Sore throat is basically gone, no tingling in my hands since day two. I feel great! I’m so thankful right now!

Two weeks today since TT, feeling great, no comparison to pre op. There is hope when you have Graves!

‘Sup, DIY? Are you a “Do It Yourself-er”? :)

I’m going to a TT consult in 3 days. My main concern is losing my voice because I’m a singer.

I am looking forward to lying flat again….I’ve got goiter-related sleep apnea, so I’ve had to sleep sitting up for over a year.

    Do you have any TED?

Yes DIY does mean that, as a hobby. I love renovating my house and I’ve almost done the entire thing so now I don’t know what I’ll do…buy another? I guess not…haha, but now I do feel more like working than I have the last 8 years.

It will be 3 weeks post op Monday and I feel much better than before the surgery. As for the voice, I had no issues, no hoarseness at all, not even when I first awoke from surgery.

No, so far I’ve had no eye problems. My endo told me 8 years ago when I was first DX that it usually is one of the first symptoms but not always and if you smoke there is more than a 50% greater risk of developing it. I’ve never smoked so hopefully I won’t have to deal with it. Best of luck to you with your surgery.
