hi, a quick question? Are TSH Levels suppossed to go up and down over time? Jan 2007=3.56—-Aug 2011=0.664—-Jan 2013=0.296—-Mar 2013=1.35—Oct 2013=1.01—-Jan 2014=1.43—- With this last lab i had a high T4 of 12.8.i was very ill.mostly head problems=severe anxiety, unable to remember things, impaired cognitive function.but not many physical problems.i have not fully returned from this latest flair.i had my levothyroxine reduced twice in the last couple of years.iam seriously thinking about T3 T4 combo meds.Has anybody expirienced this? Thanks

Hello – Hopefully, others will chime in here. I do think it’s normal for levels to fluctuate somewhat and for dosing to need some tweaks over time. Although you definitely need to take action if certain levels are going out of range.

It’s also helpful to have labs drawn at the same time of day each time, as TSH levels can fluctuate throughout the day.

I have not taken replacement hormone (and obviously I’m not a doc), but my thought would be that if your T4 is too high, a T3/T4 combination might make you feel worse, not better. This would definitely be a great question for your doctor!
