    Hi –

I just received my results for Jan 2014. I got work done pretty much every month since I got my RAI treatment in Jan 2013.

I am currently on Synthroid 100 and am feeling ok. TSH around 1.5 (range 0.4 – 4.5). I have been playing with my dosage since Sept (100, 104, 106 , 106 …). At 112 my TSH was very low and I was starting to feel uncomfortable. I noticed that no matter my free T4 are, my FT3 remains constant at 2.8 (range: 2.3-4.2).It is on the lower range which explains my holding on to those 10 lbs post RAI; but I am not complaining because I can go on with my daily life with just a little difficulty, which I will take.
I also noticed my TPAB are gradually down; from 579 in Sept 2013 to 140 in Jan 2014 (range: less than 35); whereas my thyroblobulin is steady around 52 (range: less than 20). I don’t really know what to make of it, and would appreciate if someone can briefly explain.
    Thanks
    MiTh

Hello – TPOab and TGab are “markers” for autoimmune thyroid disease. They are very common in Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis, but a certain percentage of Graves’ patients (even those who do not have HT) test positive for them. There are other antibody tests (TSI and TRAb) that are specific for Graves’.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi all,

I was diagnosed with Graves’ in July 2005. I had radioactive iodine treatment in 2005 and 2007, when my thyroid “regenerated”. I’ve had a year here and there where I did not have to have my meds changed and did o.k.

I had my TSH checked in Dec and it was 17.14. This month it was down to 2.16, even though I take my Synthroid every day and at the same time of day.
My T4 was normal, as was my thyroglobulin antibodies. However, my TPO was 395, when it should be <35. I have an appointment with my endo next month, but I hate waiting and not knowing what the heck is going on.

Of course, I did my own research and Hashimoto’s keeps popping up, but I’m really not familiar with it. Any ideas? Thanks.

Hello – We’re fellow patients here, not docs, so we’re not allowed to interpret lab results. One option, though, if you are looking for a quicker answer from your doc is to ask the office to be placed on a cancellation list…we’ve had posters here have success getting a faster appointment that way. Also, one other thing to consider is whether you might be consuming other substances from time to time that could affect absorption, for example, iron, calcium, or soy. That would definitely be a good issue to discuss with your doctor. Most docs will recommend spacing these substances out 2-4 hours from taking your replacement hormone.
