It’s not likely to make much difference if you skip a dose, and the trouble with skipping is that you can’t rely on subsequent labs, necessarily, if your dosing has been haphazard. The fact is that our body metabolizes the replacement slowly, and if you’re slipping into the hyper range on this dose, one less dose won’t change it. Remember that you absolutely will not "spike" into dramatically hyper ranges as you did when you first got sick. It’s not a runaway train. The other thing to consider is that, as we first go on replacement, and adjust the doses fairly regularly, we can actually *feel* high/low on occasions, without actually being hyper. Best to wait until you know for sure.

Background: 25 yr old male, 175 lbs. I have been on 100 mcg of levothyroxine for 6 weeks and 2 days (5 months post RAI) and I think that I’m feeling some symptoms of hyperthyroidism. I had blood work on Monday but am not schedule to see my endo until next Monday. My symptoms are minor hand tremors, minor anxiety, irritability, confusion, trouble falling asleep, increased HR (96 bpm), minor breathing issues (sometimes hard to catch my breath..but again, very minor).

Quick Question: I’m planning on calling my doctor in the AM..(sometimes he doesn’t have a chance to get back to me until later in the day, 3pm-4pm). Should I take my levothyroxine in the AM as usual and wait until I hear from the doctor or should I skip the dosage in the morning in hopes that my doctor has the labs back that I took on Monday and can order a decreased dosage over the phone? Are there any harmful effects from skipping a dosage? Since I think that it might be too high that seems like the logical thing to do..but I also don’t want my body to have a bad reaction to no hormone. Thoughts? What would you do in this situation?

    Thanks, any input is appreciated.

One of the symptoms that I experienced about 2 months after RAI (still hyper at that time) and yesterday was delirium. I just have this weird feeling that I’m disconnected and confused. If I drink water, oj, and eat a healthy salad that normally fixes the short term problem. Has anyone else experience this side effect while your levels were "off"? And if so, what do you do about it?

    Thanks.

While it may be that your thyroid levels are indeed "off," if eating something fixes a problem, it sounds to me like thyroid issues might not be the cause of that particular problem. You might want to check with your doctor.

I’ve heard of salt deficiency causing symptoms like that. I’ve had some days when I feel really off and I’ve notice that staying hydrated helps me too. Since these things don’t last long I haven’t worried about them too much yet. My levels aren’t within normal range yet either. I am getting there. I was going to ask my endo about the thyroid being off causing any small problems with blood sugar levels since it’s part of the endocrine system too.
