I cant get a hold of my eye doctor. They put me on Prednisone 60mg/day before my TT on July 29th, after 2wks went to 40mg/day now just finally started 20mg/day for 2wks, then 10mg/day for 2wks, then 5mg/day for 2wks. Endocrinologist & primary think I need to be tapered off sooner but I will not be off until the start of October. They think it may be inhibiting the healing process of the TT. Getting moon face, can’t taste sweet stuff, craving carbs, gaining weight, moody, it gives me pain in my neck & shoulders too. Been on it in the past so I’m familiar w/the pain symptoms. Losing taste is new but I did some searching & it’s most likely from the prednisone. E-mailed my TED specialist him last week, called Monday this week w/still no contact back. I think he’s on vacation. Even called my regular eye doctor but they don’t even want to see me, said to leave it up to the specialist. Still happy can’t see the TED by looking at me but the tearing isn’t getting any better, floaters seem to be worse & blurred vision is getting worse at times throughout the day. It seems almost random. I have so many questions & no other doctors to question in the area.

Calcium was checked w/last blood work & I seem to be absorbing it ok, they said levels were fine. I went to a seminar about vitamins & learned the calcium carbonate I’m on will only be absorbed 500mg at a time & the rest usually just gets flushed out so the dosing they gave me of 2000mg at a time, 4x a day was probably not doing any good. Down to 2000mg in a total day & splitting up the 500mg 4x a day now. Thinking of changing it to calcium citrate also because they have me on prilosec because of the prednisone. UGH!

Hair no longer falling out, tingling not so bad anymore. Everything feels soft & a bit numb to the fingers still. Nails still soft & brittle. I’m sleeping well about 7 hours a night but before I go to bed & especially when I wake up, my pulse races like crazy & I usually clock it around 88-96, was 136 one day though. Not really bad but not good either when I’ve been resting. It almost makes me afraid to work out. I was only on 25mg of Atenelol but I’m off that now & really don’t want to go back on. Could be the prednisone also causing this. Still feel like I have ice being applied to the back of my arms & getting cold swears randomly through the day. I “felt” clammy when at my last primary appointment & she said I definitely wasn’t clammy to the touch.

    *sigh*

125mcg of levothyroxine. Next appointments for blood work follow up not until Sep 12th. Trying to get out but friends are all like, we’ll go out when you’re “feeling better.” Still not up for driving because of my eyes though was released to drive, only been doing a bit of local & very short distance driving.

    Feeling quite melancholy.

    Just an update.

    Dear Amanda.

Just reading your post brought back [melancholy] memories. Ah! Pr4ednisone! It will help us survive, but the trip can be pretty rough. I can look at some old pictures and even tell you what dose I was on at a given time. I r4emember driving through a fried chicken place and tearing in to it with my bare hands–oops, I don’t even LIKE fried chicken. It will go away, and you are certainly on the low end of things, so hang in there.

    Take care,

    Nancy

Amanda – your post brought back so many memories. And it was only last year for me. I hated the steroids. HATED them. I’m still waiting to lose the 40 lbs I gained yet it is hard when you are not released to go to gym.

Keep your head up, smile, fake it till you make it – above all vent to those who trust and believe in you. Know that this too shall pass!

I can relate to everything you are going through, have been on predisone twice since February, down to 10 mg a day now, hopefully down to 5 in a week or so, and eventually off, had TT April, am suppose to get decompression surgery sometime in fall, have to see eye specialist again end of September,,,, nerves are shot, lots of stress and anxiety, my eyes are a mess, tear all the time, and my face is still moon shaped, started on anti-depressants two weeks ago to help with depression and anxiety, it has been a really hard year….. good luck to you,…

Oh I want fried chicken now! And they had the undercover boss on TV tonight where they were from Popeyes! LOL! That didn’t help. :)

Finally got a hold of my eye doctor who said to stay the course with the prednisone until I go in mid September where they can physically check out my eyes. So I didn’t really get the answers that I needed but I do know I need to be looked at. I’ll be on 10mg prednisone by then. Luckily that same day I will see my eye doctor, then my endocrinologist later in the day.
