    Dear Nina,

We had an excellent speaker at our conference a couple of years ago in Chicago. He was a thyroid surgeon. He then wrote his presenttion as a lead article for the Newsletter. I try to send it to anyone that asks about surgery.

If you will send me your e-mail, I will figure out how to send it to you as an Acrobat file (meaning I will ask Carole Johnson to do it). It is quite a thorough, clear review of thyroidectomies.
My e-mail is “nancyngdf@bellsouth.net”, NOT the one that is attached to my name on the bulletin board.

    Take care, Nancy

    Nina,

You won’t “suddenly” be hypo thyroid, because you will have all that extra thyroid hormone stored, but it is quite likely that you will be sent home on replacement hormone.

The iodine in IV contrast is different that iodine drops.

Hopefully, others will post about their surgery. You can also get some information at the Thyca.org site. That is for thyroid cancer survivors, but the surgery is the same. We work closely with them.

    Nancy
