In thyroid storm, the thyroid cells go berzerk and start pouring out immense quantities of thyroid hormone. And they are making new hormone as well. The heart rate skyrockets, and the patient is extremely ill. It is a medical emergency situation that occurs in hyperthyroid patients who are not being treated, or whose treatment is insufficient. I have heard of it most often in people who have yet to be diagnosed with hyperthyroidism.

    Hi Country Princes,

I had a TS early this year post partum. I was feeling very ill….much worse than what you would say as symptomatic of hyperthyroidism.. I listed my symptoms leading up to and as I went into a TS on a thread so if you check the archives you will see it all there, to be honest I try not to think of that period of my life anymore as I still have flash backs and mentally and emotionally I find it really distressing.

I had TS, i was very ill, my heart rate sky rocketed, i had to rushed to the hospital, the doctor in the er told me if i didnt come there it could have killed me. I was very lucky. It took them forever to get my heart rate down, i was hospitalized for 5 days. I had GD for years and did nt no it, i had symptons, but ignored them till it was almost to late. That day I was feeling so bad, dizzy, extreme pain in my neck, short of breath, shaky all over, chest pain and rapid heart beat. Later that evening, I jumped screaming pulling my hair yelling I cant take it no more. My husband called a ambulance. Since then I have been feeling better. Ive had RAI 5 weeks ago. <img decoding=” title=”Wink” />
