    Hi Sue,

Are you asking if there are people taking PTU or Tapazole who don’t
have problems with the meds? If so, I took PTU for 3 months and it
really lowered my thyroid levels and I feel much better. I was
supposed to take it for a year before stopping to see if I was in
remission, but I’m off it for now while we’re trying to figure out
if my legs and knees pain is a reaction to the PTU or something else.

No one else seems to have had the pain that I did, so it’s probably
not the PTU – and other than the taste it leaves in your mouth for an
hour or so – I haven’t had any problems.

    Hope this helps!

    HI,

I AM WONDERING IF THERE IS ANYONE OUT THERE THAT HAS NOT HAD TROUBLE
WITH THE MEDS THAT CONTROL HORMONES AND ALL OTHER LEVELS THAT GRAVES
CAUSES TO GO OUT OF CONTROL.

I HAVE READ THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE TROUBLE WHEN THEY ARE PUT ON
THE MEDS THAT CONTROL WHAT YOUR THYROID USED TO. ALSO, DO THEY ALL
HAVE THE TERRIBLE SIDE EFFECTS THAT I HAVE BEEN READING ABOUT?

IS THERE ANYONE WHO HAS BEEN LUCKY ENOUGH WHEN PUT ON THESE MEDS THAT
EVERYTHING WAS JUST JIM DANDY AND IT DIDN’T TAKE UP TO YEAR TO GET
    UNDER CONTROL??

    THANKS,
    SUE

Thanks for the chat. I guess I do need to be a little more patient — it’s so hard though when you just don’t feel good.

I was diagnosed in March 96 and was on .1, I’d say from May 1st and I was on that for about 16 weeks. The endo said it takes a good 8 – 10 weeks to feel anything. The endo then ordered some lab work and I was still a little to hypo so he upped me to .125 and I’ve been on that since Augustish so that’s about 6 months.

I apparently was doing alot of things wrong though. The endo didn’t tell me anything about taking the pill. I learned on my own that you take it on an empty stomach and I was taking it with breakfast and I was also taking it at the same time as my multi-vitamin and apparently iron draws from the synthroid taking away from its effect. So now I take before I even role out of bed in the morning and give it at least a 1/2 hour to hour to soak in before I eat and I take my multivitamin at dinner time.

Actually, having this kind of makes my husband feel a little better because he has diabetes and has to take two shots a day so we make a deal out of doing this together. I’ts like going to the doctor everyday. JUST LOVELY!

Thanks again. Would love to talk more.

    Hi Kay,

It would be worth a second opinion. ATDs are worth a try if you can take them. It may not hurt to get a second opinion. Remision is worth a try.
