Anyone who is experienceing depression, anxiety..what medications have you tried and what has worked for you to control the depression, anxiety and not cause weight gain…even better does anyone have any experience with depression medication that actually helps to lose weight? I am taking lexapro 30 mg now…I am ballooning as we speak…no kidding…in one year I have gained 20 lbs, 10 since November…of course I realize this is an issue we all face but if I can get a depresion med that wont make it worse that would be nice…I am currently 40 lbs over weight and I eat right/healthy/ fruits veggies watch portions/ low fat etc, etc, etc…am not getting enough exercise…Any suggestions/ comments?

I am unsure how the dosage of medications are determined?

Is it by weight of the person?
By how “bad” the blood levels are?
    By age?

Reason I am asking is that the Pediatric Endo. started my daugher on 150mgs 2X a day of PTU.

She originally was on generic tapizol (methiminozle/Spelling ?)and after 2 weeks broke out in rashes, hives, itching all over her body.
We did have her stop taking thyroid meds for just under 1 week to let her body “heal” from hives and rashes. Her skin is still super sensative-just slightly scratch it and it gets RED!

I am desperate for the PTU to work because I am not sure what we would do RAI or surgery if the meds don’t work. My daughter is only 7 years old. How do you keep a 7 year old away from other people (RAI), Dr. told us it would be somewhat difficult to find a surgeon to do the surgery on such a young child (surgery).

We have her on PTU as well as Zyrtec to help overcome any anticipated allergic reaction.

Any suggestions, ideas, thoughts on how to handle this with a child so young.

I saw my general practitioner yesterday and he suggested that I take synthroid as opposed to the generic medication. He told me it is more accurate. My TSH levels have fluctuated quite a bit during the past few months. I take .175 daily and 1/2 on Sunday. I believe he may help me out more than my endocrinologist. I will give him a chance to level out my TSH
If he does a better job, I will let him monitor my levels and drop my endo.
