Hi
A question about thyroid antibodies. If diagnosed with Graves and have received RI31 are thyroid antibodies still present in your blood (7 years since last treatment). I had read that an autoimmune disease will always show up in special blood work results (TSI for one).

Hello – This will vary by individual. I’ve not seen studies specifically on TSI (the stimulating antibodies), but TRAb (which picks up both blocking and stimulating antibodies) can potentially remain for several years after RAI. The following study looked at antibody levels 5 years out.

Keep in mind that the numbers in the chart represent the *average* of all the patients in the study…so at the 5-year mark, some of the RAI patients would have had higher levels than what you see in the chart, while others would have had lower levels.
Thanks for the link Kimberley interesting information.
I will hunt around for studies that involve the TSI antibody test.

Hi, funny you should mention antibodies. My primary doctor said insurance covers the B12 shot I got to help the vitiligo. I just needed to be tested for antibodies. I called the nurse to add it to my blood work for my endo visit and the doctor said what he needed was already covered in my usual blood work? Who knows this just gets weirder by the minute.
I also lost weight “due to my hard work and dedication” ha ha. But, to answer your question I felt better after a couple of weeks on the medication. Getting “back to normal” however, is an ongoing process that leaves little to be desired. And who knows if one ever feels great again?
