On Saturday, December 22nd, the nausea, headaches, mental confusion, and general feeling of being unwell became too much. I could no longer “feel” my own body’s signals. The signals I was getting were mixed and negative, and I stopped the Methi-Crap.

Christmas Eve, the big dinner, I was unable to eat a thing and Christmas Day, I recall just sleeping while others opened their presents. The next day, I collapsed in the kitchen. My emotional makeup became changed. I was unable to exert any control over them at all. Yesterday, I went to a primary doctor.

My liver enzymes were through the roof. My blood pressure was very low; life threatening low. My body was, in fact, shutting down. My FreeT4 though was in normal range. (I wonder if we just got there too fast?)

I am no longer taking my BP meds or the Thyroid meds. I am working hard to get my body rehydrated.

I plan to start booking some “second” opinions but I am not rushing back into any treatment without a lot more confidence in the doctor and methodology. This incident really scared me. I know where my body was taking me, and this shouldn’t have happened. Heck, if I hadn’t insisted, I would be waiting for ANY blood work to happen until Jan. 10th!

    Stepping off the cliff….

Hello – Wow, I’m sorry to hear you are dealing with all of this, but it’s a good thing you got in to see your primary care doc when you did! Hopefully, this doc is going to guide you through the process until you can get that second opinion.

Now that you are off the meds, definitely keep an eye out for a return of any hypER symptoms, and be sure to contact your doc again if that does occur.

Take care — and keep us posted!

Wow! I am sorry you dealt with all of that! I hope your doctor can get you back on track to health. I had the same liver issues with methimazole (although I didn’t deal with any other issues). I stopped the methimazole right away and fortunately stayed euthyroid long enough (6 weeks) to have a thyroidectomy. Are you going to choose surgery or RAI since the ATD’s don’t seem to be the right route for you? I didn’t opt to try PTU after the liver issues on methimazole since PTU has a worse track record for that. I hope that your New Year will be at least a little bit better! Good for you for listening to you body. Who knows better than the one living in it right?!! I hope you feel better slowly but surely. I keep putting out the idea of acupuncture out there. It really helped me get more centered and relaxed; if you can do it (complimenting western medicine, not in stead of necessarily), it’s worth a shot just to get some balance back. I think our bodies, to an extent, can heal themselves. The acupuncturist told me the body can heal itself of most things EXCEPT tissue damage. She by no means said that a person should do acupuncture instead of ATD’s, RAI or surgery, but said that it can help a lot with getting well again.

I’m so sorry. I wish you luck in finding a good endo. You are so right, that should never have happened.
