Without a trip to the eye doctor to make sure, chances are you are having a dry eye problem. The drops make it feel better. The problem is when the eye feels good we do not use the drops. Then the next day the eyes are dry and hurt. The key is what you do today will determine how your eyes will feel tomorrow. So use the drops everyday.

Get to an eye doctor for a good base-line exam if you have not had one and to make sure the dry eyes are not hurting your corneas.

It is always best to have an annual eye exam to see if there are any changes and that way you have an eye doctor already who knows you if problems arise.

I have a quick question. I have noticed that my right eye is more red and painful than my left. It is not pain behind the eye though but rather pain on the eye – if this makes any sense. The eye doctor mentioned conjunctivitis… but at the time didn’t give me anything. I have been giving myself polysporin drops which eases the pain but when I stop it comes back..
Does anyone have any ideas or experiences of this?
    Many thanks

I have found that having a humidifyer in the house going helps also. Acutally in winter I have about 3 going. I use the Ultra fine mist ones with distilled water. I have seen them on the net now with ones that don’t even have filters that you have to change….I’m working my way over to them shortly. Hope that helps, Hugs Rhonda

Thanks for your replies… The eye doctor mentioned conjunctivitis… but didn’t give me anything… this was a month ago… but its weird, the eye pain is just in one eye. I am using eye lubricants in both eyes.. but still the one hurts more… Is this something that occurs with TED?
    Thanks

It can happen that the eyes are affected differently from each other with TED. Have you seen an ophthalmologist?

If it’s conjunctivitis, both eyes are usually treated — you’ll probably get an antibiotic solution to treat the condition.

I had conjunctivitis quite awhile back; it’s not fun to have. Hope you feel better.

I have slight TED in my left eye, but both my Ophthalmologist & Endocrinologist emphasized call them immediately if I start having eye pain.

So, based on this, an Ophthalmologist if at all possible or your Endo as soon as possible.

Hope this is resolved soon for you. Keep us posted, OK?

    Hi again
So my doctor put me on gentimicin… eye drops… and now my eye has gotten worse… more red and has a little bubble on the side – and it really hurts on that side. Yow… not sure what to do now… but I can’t seem to hand the antibiotic in my eye, so I stopped using it…
    Has anyone had this before…

I have never had it before, but have been warned of it, due to lack of being able to close my eyes when I sleep. You should see your eye doc again. They may be able to perscribe some meds for the pain in there(they do have some awesome eye drops that make eyes feel alot better). Everytime I went in to have my eyes checked they would put some kind of eye drop in there that was yellow, so they could check the pressure, and put there little thing right up to my eye. That stuff was great. I would leave and wish I could have it all the time, no burning, no nothing, and it made them feel refreshed. I wish I had asked for some to take home. I didn’t find anything else that would help. Have you been putting in eye gel at night?

Haven’t had that before, but when I was little my mom used to use a potatoe for an eye sty. Don’t really know how safe this is, but worked like a charm. Hugs Rhonda

Just to let everyone know… I discovered what has been going on… I went to the eye doctor.. my optometrist… who is great… and turns out I am allergic to the preservative in the antibiotic I was taking.. my eye is pretty scary blood shot and a big bubble on the side… but apparently it will go away..
So thankfully now I only have to deal with my painful eye, double vision, dryness and swollen eyes… for now…
I wish I could be transported to the future when my eyes are better again!!

Hello, sounds like it might be "chemosis" related to thyroid eye disease. I would talk to your opthalmologists and ask for a ct scan for your eyes. Very important to stay on top of this if it’s TED. Good luck.

Thanks for letting us know. The preservatives can be painful! I am glad you just didn’t stop the medication. You followed up–and that is the important thing.
The "bubble" may take longer to go away. Get out the ice packs and be comfortable.
