Hi, I had posted earlier that I had an allergic reaction to Tapazole.
Today my Endo called and put me on PTU. I was wondering if any one can answer a few questions. I originally started the Tapazole at 10mg 3x a day, then 6 weeks later, I was taken down to one 10mg tablet a day. Now the PTU prescription is 50 mg tablets. I am supposed to take 2 of them, 3x a day until I go back the first of Sept.
Is PTU that much of a difference from Tapazole? I had heard it was lesser in strength than Tapazole, but didn’t realize it would be this much.
If anyone has any comments, I would appreciate it.
(P.S. My Endo wanted to see me in his office, but it is 85 miles away, and we have 2 people on vacation, so I could not get off to go.) If this happens again, I don’t care who is on vacation–I’m going!!
    Thanks,
    Ellie

    Hi Ellie,
I went the other route, allergic to PTU then to Tapazole.
Yes, the dosage is very different with PTU. I am no doctor but
the “conversion” amount sound about right to me. .
Hope you feel well on the PTU. For me, I really preferred the PTU – it worked better for me. Hope your experience is good too!
    Casey
