Hi, Cathryn!
I’ve read that methimazole (the T drug) is commonly prescribed for daily use at 30 to 40 milligrams. It sounds like you’re on a fairly normal dose, although I’ve read that you can take them once a day instead of 3x. I don’t have direct experience with ATDs, but I hear of people having their meds reduced as they reach normal thyroid levels and continue to feel better.
From your post, it sounds like you’re questioning the use of ATDs and considering RAI as a treatment. The big question would be then…are you feeling well? Neither treatment will “cure” Graves’, although they will certainly bring your hyperthyroidism under control. There is always that chance of remission with ATDs, which is something to consider if you’re having success with them. As you’ve read on the BB before, there are advantages and disadvantages with all three Graves’ treatments. My best advice is to stay in close contact with your endo and do what is best for YOU.
Wishing you health and happiness,
Debby
