Does anyone have any explanation for the following? I am almost 39 years old and would like to get pregnant; however, last August/September/October (it took that long to find out definitively) I was diagnosed with Grave’s Disease. My endo put me on PTU and told me that it would take three to six months to get levels back to normal and stabilized and then we would start trying. Well, it’s been now nine months, and weird things are happening.

When I first went on PTU, my T4 levels went back down into the normal range, but my TSH stayed “undetectible”. Endo said that this was normal because it takes longer for the TSH to adjust. After a couple of months, my T4 went below normal range (3.2), but my TSH was still lower than normal (.2). Endo told me to lower the PTU dosage because test results were showing that I would eventually become hypothyroid. T4 went back to the normal range (5.3), and TSH dropped off to 0.1. Endo said eventually the TSH would go back up to what she wanted (which was 0.3 to 0.4) and the T4 would stay in the normal range (5.–). Well, this month I go back and my T4 is low again (3.3), but SO IS MY TSH (0.01)!!!!! DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT’S GOING ON? MY ENDO DOESN’T KNOW, CAN’T FIGURE IT OUT, AND IS DOING MORE TESTS (on T3 levels for some reason). BUT I AM VERY, VERY UPSET!!!! She’s says that I need to keep taking the PTU, but I’m getting hypothyroid symptoms (very cold, tired, NO libido, and I have already gained 4 lbs in about two weeks). Furthermore, TICK TOCK TICK TOCK — IF WE DON’T GET THIS FIXED SOON, I’M GOING TO START TO HAVE ALL SORTS OF OTHER PROBLEMS HAVING BABIES BECAUSE OF MY AGE!!!!!

This is all probably written pretty scattered. But right now, I’m very upset. I stopped taking the PTU two days ago, because I don’t want to gain any more weight, and I don’t really know if the endo knows what she is doing anymore. It’s been now almost a year. What should I do? Does anyone have any suggestions or has anyone come acrosss this before? I would really appreciate any feedback anyone has!!!

    Thank you so much!!!!!!
