Dx 2/21; RAI 2/24. Labs on 4/13 was TSH of 7.8 and low T3 / T4 so dr started me on 150 mcg Synthroid. I have been taking Synthroid for just over 3 weeks and I know it isn’t time to do labs again yet, but I have been experiencing a couple of things that concern me and don’t know if I should call endo or wait it out. I am type 2 diabetic controlled with oral meds (no insulin).
The last few days I have been having what I only know to describe as a sort of very short hot flast or maybe just flushing? Very warm suddenly all over but it only lasts like maybe 1 or 2 minutes. I have had pretty severe headaches and sort of dizzy and really nauseas. I didn’t have my blood sugar monitor with me, so I couldn’t check it during the day but checked when I got home and it was 67 which is low for me (usually average closer to 100). All my symptoms sound related to low blood sugar, but can this be caused by Synthroid or by just being HYPOthyroid and it just not being controlled yet? I know I need to wait a few more weeks for testing my thyroid levels again, but do you suppose this is a side effect that I need to bring to someone’s attention before then?
I know you aren’t dr’s, but just hoping someone has had similar experience and can help me discern whether I should wait or call. Thanks as always for all the help!
well, the first thing I think of is your diet, and if you have been so busy you have not been eating enough/
The second thing I think of is for you to take your glucose equipment to work, and check a blood sugar if you are feeling like that.
The third thing I think of, is the timing of when you did you chem stick, and when you had last eaten.
And, I presume you very well informed about Type 2 diabetes, and that you need to be pretty structured about when you take your oral meds, when you eat, etc. etc.
The other thing that occurs to me is that it is I wonder if you have hyPER symptoms? I realize that you were hypo a short time ago.
But, when the body is in overdrive with hyPER, blood sugars can be harder to control, for everything is on warp speed in your body.
Just my initial thoughts. I do think it is kinda early for labs, but if you can do it, it might give you more information.
