When I was diagnosed with GD (after the birth of my first child), I bounced around slightly hyper and slightly hypo (never out of the widest ranges, sometimes slightly out of range. My endo said let’s wait and see, and I did come back to normal. After the birth of my second child, I went way hyper and stayed there. I was very symptomatic when I was bouncing around. I think that thyroid fluctuations make us feel worse as they are changing. For me it helped to know it was thyroid related, even if we weren’t treating it, because then I felt like at least I was not going crazy. Also, when I have had trouble sleeping, melatonin once in a while has been a really helpful supplement. Take it right before bed (like when you are already laying down). Hope that helps! You aren’t alone. ” title=”Smile” />
dxed spring 09…methimazole 5 mg/daily…normal TSH within a few months….felt "perfect"…weaned to 2.5 mg in October 2009 and found out I was pregnant in June 2010…..stopped methimazole…thyroid behaved during pregnancy….beautiful baby girl on Valentine’s Day 2011..a few weeks post-partum I went slightly hyper…endo suggested we just wait and see
Since March I’ve had blood drawn monthly and TSH, T3, T4 have all been "normal" since April. BUT….I feel hyper – trouble concentrating, hand tremors, dizziness, nausea, trouble sleeping, anxious, etc. Not horrible, but I feel like I’m dragging myself through each day instead of living each day. Had blood drawn just this week and was a little bit hoping that I would be hyper so I’d be able to explain how I’m feeling. I’m breastfeeding and realize that my body has been through a lot. I eat pretty healthy and exercise. I really do try to take time for myself. I’m starting to get anxious about what’s going on. ” title=”Sad” />
So my question…if my TSH is bouncing around slightly within the "normal" range, could I be symptomatic? When I was first dxed, I had symptoms weeks before the TSH dropped out of normal.
I just want to feel NORMAL….like my TSH supposedly is. ” title=”Smile” />
Thanks,
EmilyHello – The “normal” range for thyroid hormone levels is pretty wide – perhaps you are one of those individuals who feels symptomatic at either the upper end or lower end of the “normal” range. Have you been able to correlate symptoms with *where* on the normal range your labs happen to fall (high end, low end, etc.)?
It also might be worth getting a physical *just* to double-check that there isn’t anything else going on.
Hope you can get some relief soon!
I agree with Kim. Get a physical from your general dr.
Are you running a fever?
Are you breasts soar, has the baby learned to suckle properly? If your breasts are soar and red, swollen, tender to the touch or hot anywhere please see your Gyn asap. Mastitis can be the culprit and not getting help for it will make you ill. (i know this for a fact. 4 kids, 3 were nursed and 3 times I has mastitis…not fun!).As long as you are taking care of your self which you know by now that eating to suppliment for your nursing is VERY important and drinking plenty of water is good.
Knowing that the baby will go through growth spurts around, weeks 3,6,8,12,and usually every two weeks slightly there after and every time that happens its a race to suckle more and longer to get your body to produce more.I was on meds prior to getting pregnant and stopped when I was about 3months pregnant. I was fine while pregnant. I will skip the other stuff.. bottom line is , I feel great when TSH is over 1.0 anything below that and I am not right at all. Regardless of how the other tests show.
I had a dr. refuse my treatment because my levels were fine and but my TSH was 0.4 and the range was 0.3-4.5 I was livid with him and said I’m .4 and feeling it why wont you help me!!! I wasn’t ladylike with my words lets just say that.
I would look at your lab work, get a copy or call the lab, sign the papers to have them mailed or faxed to you and get everything. look at the labwork and see where you were back then and where you are now.
personally I just did this with the lab, I got the paper, signed it and said ALL labwork from 2000-2009 and they sent it to me. I didn’t ask for 2010- till now because I have that.
good luck
Thanks for your replies. I have had a complete physical and nothing else seems to be wrong. I was anemic during pregnancy, but my iron levels are back up.
My endo has explained that the fluctuations can cause symptoms…I just didn’t think it would last for so long. I’m not patient. ” title=”Smile” />
I will call to get my lab results. I would like to know what my exact numbers are so I know where I feel "best".
Today is not so bad…trying to be positive. ” title=”Smile” />
