Hi everyone, can swelling above the eyebrows be related to TED? I have experienced extra eye irritation and some pains behind the eye lately in conjunction with my spring allergies. I’ve never had anything like this eyebrow swelling though – it’s like an area about half in inch in height mirroring the shape of my eyebrows has a tiny puff to it, enough to wrinkle the skin above it a little. I’ve had allergies all my life but never this symptom. Does anyone know anything about it? Anything I can do? It is noticeable but not disfiguring yet but if it keeps increasing it will become quite noticeable. I have an appointment with a neuro-ophth in a couple weeks, so far I’m only classified as having very mild TED. I’m worried.
Hello – Swelling in the eyebrow area can definitely come with TED, but that’s good that you have a neuro-ophth checking this out soon.
Some patients find that the swelling can get worse with specific triggers – mine are sodium, alcohol, and second-hand smoke – and I’ve heard others mention chocolate.
Keep us posted on how the appointment goes!
Thanks Kimberly! So swelling above the eyebrows? This is some weird stuff. I’ve had swelling below the eyebrows for almost two years now maybe it just wants to expand. There were all those chocolate Easter bunnies I ate…hmmm.
I had swelling above the eyebrows during my TED relapse. It still hasn’t gone down. My skin is slightly wrinkled above it as well. It also made my forehead wrinkles that were already there, but barely noticeable, much more noticeable. The never ending fun of TED;)
Hi Holly, I’m relieved to know I’m not crazy for linking this with TED. Sorry you have this too – it’s kind of like insult to injury. Did you ever try anything to make the swelling go down? Cucumber slices, tea bags? I too have the extra wrinkles – it’s like the puffed up skin pushes upward to show up the wrinkles – makes me look worried on top of the other eye oddness.
I know it’s silly compared to the really bad stuff, but I’d just like to know which parts of my body are off limits to Graves, you know?
I never tried anything to make it go down. I tried things for the other swelling around my eyes and nothing ever worked, so I guess I just didn’t bother. Let me know of you find anything that works!
