Good luck tomorrow with your surgery. I am sure it will be a success. Mine helped my double vision, I was in danger of not being able to drive or work. Think good thoughts and let us know how you are.

Can someone explain what exactly this surgery is? I am seeing double and I guess I’m a candidate for it.Is RAI an alternative treatment for double vision? Will either one help puffy eyes?I’m seeing a surgeon for the 1st time on the 23rd.This will help me know what she’s talking about.By the way, my tooth that is no longer there, feels great. No pain anymore and no problems with the novocain.Take care all….Gwen

    Gwen,
Strabismus surgery is usually done on the muscles of one or both eyes.
One or two of the six muscles is cut loose from the saddle of the eye
and reattached usually farther back to make that eye point in the same
direction as the other eye. This is necessary due to damage to the
muscle (scarring) from the swelling that is a reaction to the GD anti-
bodies. The muscle is stitched in place with sutures that disolve in
a few days. All this and it doesn’t even hurt. much. (see Oouucchh!!!)

Hi all, I haven’t written alot lately, but I check in almost daily. Tomorrow I’m having surgery for my retracting eyelid. It’s been since July 17th that I had my last radiation treatment to the eyes. they are now stable enough for this surgery. The retracting of the eyelid is just starting to cause some dry spots, so it’s timely. She is also going to smooth out the puffiness and the bagging under the eyes.So my left eye will be younger than my right. In a month or so I’ll have the right eye done too.I told my surgeon that it takes forever for me to heal. I can stay black and blue for months. She told me to take Arnica Montana 30X. you get it at the health food store. You pour 4 pills into the cap(you don’t touch them) and place them under the tongue. It takes seconds for them to disolve. You take then 4 days before surgery and a week after. It’s good for bruising. I’l be curious to see if it works. I have no idea what to expect. My fingers have ben crossed all day. I’m excited and very nervous. If all goes well, after January I’ll have my double vision corrected. Then, dare I say it, I might be done.(Please God) I’ll let you all know how it went after the weekend. Thank you, dear friends for being here…….Gwen

    dear jan
i always appreciate your advice and thoughts on bb. i am in my second year with graves. started in right eye w/o thyroid involvement. right eye blew up, tried prednizone. nothing worked so used radiation(10 tx) to reduce swelling as optic nerve was being compromised. by this time i was hyperthyroid, begin tapolozol. a year later my left eye began to start swelling. decided to have radiation tx before it compromised my optic nerve(i’m an oil painter so color vision is very important to me). my orbital ophtho was against radiation until i was in danger, but endo and radiation supported my decision. three months later, swelling stabilized but double vision is increasing espcially in am, at night when driving, tired, going to theater when i’m in dark looking into bright lights. most of the time my primary gaze is alrightexcept for those above listed times(which turns out to be quite a bit of time in each day) but ophtho say forget doing strabismus surgery to correct double vision–too risky–could then affect your primary gaze. this just not seem like it can be the last answer. do you have any thoughts or experience in this area or know excellent strabismus surgeon. i live in new haven connecticut and am willing to travel. thnaks so much for listening–nat
