Buttamama – My first symptom of Graves (that I recognized as something besides stress) was a very sore eye that burned and I could not stand light. It came after computer work late into the night. I honestly thought I had pink eye but it resolved a day or so later without antibiotics – I also wondered about glaucoma just because of the pain that woke me up at night. It was bad enough to patch. I did not have any bumps, though.
My first thought is go to the eye specialist because then can treat the eye directly – but then again, letting your endo know can help them with the overall treatment puzzle. My eye specialist has been more helpful for eye-specific symptoms – like extra vision testing and the punctal plugs for dry eye. The endo is definitely more aware of what my thyroid levels are. It sounds like TED/Dry eye to me but someone needs to look to see if there is a bump. Eye sight is nothing to play with.
Let us know what you find out.
The past three days my right eye has been very painful. It is burning, itching, etc. Well I looked at it in the mirror and noticed this spot on the white part of my eye. It looks almost like a bump or something. I don’t think I feel a bump? but that is what it looks like.
I don’t have a doctor or a specific eye doctor? But who should I see first and Endo or an Opto? I am really frustrated. Has anyone else had this problem or know what it could be. Is it from my TED or is it just an regular eye problem…
Here I go again with something new…
CAthy is right. Make the appt’s. If it is going to take a bit to get an appt. call your general dr. and tell them you need to be seen right away for it. Once the general dr. sees you they can get you in faster with the endo or eye dr..
Yes, Eyes are nothing to screw around with. The faster the appt the better. Even if it winds up being nothing, at least you went and if it is something you caught it in time.
I apologize let me clarify I already have TED. I just didn’t know if this was a new symptom. I have had it for about 3yrs. now.
Thanks for all of your support. I will let you know what I find out.
Could me an ulcer on the eye – sounds similar to what my cousin had. Def get is checked out!

I agree with hyperm, get to a good opthamologist immediately. You say you have had TED for a while and this is a new symptom. It could be something with your cornea. My opth. kept checking mine and if they were dry, I had to increase the lubricants and be more careful to keep out of air and up the humidity. I asked him what he was looking for and how would I know if I had a problem, basically to know when to get help between checks. He told me that I would have serious pain that I could not stand and if so to get in immediately or go to ER or urgent care. Take care!
