We’ll be thinking of you, please do let us know how things are going (when you can!). Having so many people cooperating to find what’s best for your son is a wonderful thing. I’m glad you feel that you’ve made a good, balanced choice, that makes ALL the difference! I hope he’s feeling better, SOON.
It seems that each day brings a new symptom. My son is now having trouble with his eyes. When he just moves his eyes, his head hurts. I took him to our eye doctor today and she said his optic nerve looks fine but his eye muscles may be weakening. He’s scheduled for an MRI on Wednesday to evaluate his pituitary gland so they’re going to "add on" looking at his eye muscles. The reason they’re looking into his pituitary gland is because his latest blood test showed that his sodium level is way too high. He doesn’t appear to be dehydrated so this is concerning. His pituitary gland may not be operating correctly. The latest blood test also showed that his liver enzymes were elevated. An ultrasound of his abdomen showed that his bile duct on his gall bladder is enlarged. Geez…when is this going to end?
Both our internist and our Endo believe it’s time to take his thyroid out of his medical picture. We’ve gone back and forth over whether to do RAI or surgery. Today, we landed on doing RAI so he’s scheduled for that on 2/16 and 2/17. The doctor tells me they will attempt to destroy his thyroid making him hypo rather than trying to just damage part of the thyroid to make him "normal". I personally would like his thyroid to be destroyed. My husband and I are hypo and it’s not that big of a deal. I’m just amazed at how many problems my son has accumulated. He’s still nauseous and has been since Jan 1st. Hopefully destroying his thyroid will solve all of his problems. I know that’s wishful thinking but I’m his Mom and that’s my wish. If not, at least we will have eliminated his thyroid as the culprit.
Best of luck to everybody dealing with this disease!!
